Thanks Stan, I really enjoyed that. Is it wrong that I was strangely aroused by the young lady?

The takeaway menu for what I believe is a new Chinese restaurant in our area was thrust though my letterbox earlier today. I don't know if this was their aim but it had me chuckling away, it is brilliant. It is written with a verve and panache sadly lacking from this market and I will definitely reward their efforts with an order or two. But what should I order?

    Crispy Mongolian Lamb
Selected cuts of lamb braised showily in garlic, soy sauce, Chinese five spice, shushing rice wine and a top secret ingredient shredded and deep fried to give you a deep satisfying crunch. You can almost hear the Mongolian hoards in every bite. Listen carefully.

    Breaded Fried Prawns
Deep fried prawns in our secret special breading. Marvellous.

    Pork Dumplings Peking Style
Filled with juicy minced pork, garlic, spring onions & ginger, these beauties are steamed then grilled to perfection making them an ultimate starter. Considered a celebration food in China, so let the party begin.

    Crab Meat and Sweetcorn Soup
Heavenly broth made with sweet satisfying crab and mushed sweet corn

    Duck in Onion Sauce
Succulent pieces of slow roasted duck complimented with a thick onion gravy giving a distinct onion sweetness. Simply brilliant.

    or my favourite

    Egg Foo Yung
Literally meaning "hibiscus egg" and yeah it is an omelette, but with an Indonesian-Chinese twist. A perfect side or main dish to enjoy. This bad boy has a base of beaten eggs, bean sprouts bamboo shoots, sliced cabbage, spring onion, mushroom and water chestnuts.

Well I would give this guy a 10/10 for his humanity and efforts in chilly water - glad to say happy ending for both bird and man:-

Man plunges into Halifax Harbour to rescue drowning bird
Erik Nolan, 23, says he didn't hesitate when he saw the bird tangled up in fishing line

Erik Nolan stripped off his work uniform and plunged into Halifax harbour on Thursday to save a drowning bird.

The sight of a bird drowning in Halifax harbour, tangled up in fishing line, was too much for Erik Nolan to witness.

The 23-year-old, who works at a waterfront restaurant, stripped down to his underwear and jumped into the chilly water Thursday afternoon to rescue the bird.

"I took my uniform off right away and jumped into the water. I swam out, made sure it wasn't going to attack me, that it was comfortable with my presence," said Nolan, a Calgary native, after he was back on dry land.

The bird, likely a juvenile seagull, was caught in a fishing line attached to a net between Murphy's restaurant and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

Erik Nolan was able to cut the bird free from the fishing line and bring it to shore. (Nic Meloney/CBC)

Nolan said one of its webbed feet had been punctured by a hook, and the animal was struggling upside down with its beak slipping underwater. After assessing the bird's predicament, Nolan swam back to the wharf, borrowed a knife from a security guard and cut the bird's wing free. He also had to remove hooks from the bird's feet.

"After I cut it loose, I expected it to fly off, but it kind of just [lay] there," he said. "I thought, 'Oh, no, did I really just jump in the harbour to save a dead bird? Or did I kill it?"

    Not a wasted effort
    Then, a sign of life.

"It stirred a little bit and then it actually turned its head towards me and stared at me."

Nolan said he doubts that the bird felt "thankful," but admits he hopes he and the seagull made a connection.

"Part of me wanted to think it was meaningful look, but it might've just been in shock."

Couldn't stand by and do nothing
Nolan said his sense of empathy prompted the rescue and it bothered him that a crowd was standing by and watching the bird drown.

He said he was very conscious of his own safety, but felt comfortable enough as a swimmer to make a rescue attempt. The man also survived the incident without any injury.

Nolan said the bird was transported by volunteers to be examined by veterinarians.

He said he later received a call to say the bird recovered quickly and was released.

They had run out of rib of beef on the bone at my excellent butchers, so I opted for the same cut off the bone, a first for me. It’s a 3kg monster with a piece of fat tied on to help keep it moist.

Stay tuned for a review post consumption.

This is a lovely cut of meat, like an enormous steak. Cook for slighty less than rib in version, came out with medium to rare at various points along its considerable length, which kept everyone happy. 3kg is a huge amount, way too much for seven people. Recommended, with a chunky red.

Did you finish Sapiens Ninesy? I have revisited the follow up Homo Deus. I’ve worked out that I don’t really like the way he writes, quite didactic and a bit repetitive, although easy enough to read, telling you the same thing multiple times as if to make sure you understand it. But the ideas are so thought provoking it’s worth persevering with. Some stuff about the brain, consciousness and the mind in this one that had never occurred to me.

I haven't Stan, I've intended to get back into it but haven't had the time. In fact I took it off the bookshelf just now and have it beside me as I type. I think I'll start from the beginning again. I'll see how I get on with Sapiens before purchasing Homo Deus.

I wouldn’t read them back to back, it’s some time ago that I read Sapiens. If memory serves me quite a lot of the ideas are recycled.

On Sunday I went to see Metallica at the O2, I last saw them live over 20 years ago. I am pleased to announce they are still an excellent live experience.
I can't report on the support act as the sound wasn't great and the vocals were drowned out. Mettalica on the other hand are just simply Heavy Metal royalty and after 36 years together still sound as fresh as they did on day 1. I wont wait another 20 years.
    here's their set list

Suggest you take a look at their back catalogue then, apart from St. Anger which is total toilet.
