Another match without a win against Norwich and I think they've now equaled us in wins for the head-to-head. I went to the match and it was a brilliant atmosphere, sadly the team could not perform to the required standard in a local derby. I thought we were quite flat, created very few opportunities, and seemed reluctant to shoot on goal against Gunn, a young, error-prone goalkeeper who was receiving criticism at the start of the season. Norwich were fairly average themselves, compared to how they usually play against us in recent years, but they come away with all three points and it's fairly clear that they've got the better of us for the past decade now.

I think we played some sort of 4-3-3 and the central midfield of Skuse, Adeyemi, and Nydam flattered to deceive. We were completely outplayed in the middle of the park, and that was reflected in the performance and the result. Strikers feeding off scraps, but while Waghorn always looked to make things happen and whipped in some troublesome set pieices, our other two strikers, McGoldrick and Garner, had poor, ineffective games.

The first half was quite even, although we had the better opportunities with Knudsen hitting the post and McGoldrick missing a brilliant opportunity with a wayward header from close range. Norwich were much improved in the second half and, as soon as they got their goal, all the fight went out of us. Spence, Webster, Nydam, Adeyemi, Garner, and McGoldrick had poor games. Everyone else looked rather average although I thought Waghorn, Chambers and Knudsen played fairly well.

I think we can all agree where it leaves us. Further adrift at the top and further evidence that while we can beat the struggling teams in this division, we are still woefully unequipped against the bigger teams in this division or sides that can play a more attractive, adaptable style of football. I am firmly of the belief that McCarthy should not be given a contract extension and should depart this summer, at the latest. I also think that rather than revert to Evans' idea of a good manager (very experienced, big name, Premier League management experience), we should aim to recruit a younger, more dynamic manager, ideally one with experience of success in the lower divisions rather than another old bloke looking for a pretty pay packet.

First time I've watched a town game since going to Sheff Weds live last year. Longest sequence since 1998 that I've NOT seen a town game via tv or live....

    Anyway, my thoughts.

    * First time I've watched a game with a headset on! Sydney casino, take a bow. Superb. Apologies to anyone who heard me yell C*** very loudly when they scored!
    * First half the game plan worked very well. As people have said, Spence was 2 v 1 often and poor however offered ZERO protection. Knudsen so unlucky and McGoldrick,,,,,,,, that header. Jesus. Not fantastic by any means - slow, tepid, general Mick stuff I guess however a lot less HOOF though clearly some direct play too. Better than last season ( not difficult ) I know. Norwich had some lovely 15-25 short pass moves, we had the chances.
    * Knudsen v good first half. Norwich certainly stopped him pressing second half.
    * Thought Nydam played well.

Then they scored............. and we had ZERO idea. No plan B. Adeymei and Garner tried however both clearly weren't 100% fit. We went to pieces when Garner went off. Need that lad fully fit all season. McGoldrick very poor. I know Mick's tryin 4-3-3 and we're never good enough CM @ 4-4-2 but for heavens sake Waghorn and McGoldrick out wide!? REALLY? Celina given sod all time - the lad looked lively! Clearly wants to run and beat his man, should have been on waaayyyyy earlier. Freddy Sears looks an absolute shadow, however needs a big man uptop and to play in a 4-4-2 as a striker. Sears cannot play any other system as far as I'm concerned. MUCH rather have Rowe on. What the hell does he have to do to get a go.

End of the day, it's the big one and only 3 points. Based on that, are we likely to come top 6? I don't think so. I think we've got far too much to be embroiled into a relegation battle, clear as day 3 sides worse than us.

Injuries seem to be easing up now, next step is getting the players that are back 100% fit.

Bring on the Burton. VERY tough set of fixtures after Burton who look set to struggle on paper, lets see if we can bounce back.

I don't really know what the hell else to say. Very disillusioned with it right now to be completely honest...............

Any Goodwill that the fans had towards the Manager and the players before the game quickly evaporated at the final whistle! My son came back totally pissed off and he blamed the lack of desire more than anything else which is totally unacceptable for a derby game. The players didn't look interested especially after they scored. We had Town legends in the stands watching yesterday and I just wonder what the hell they made of this lacklustre performance and the terrible state that thos club has got into! Very sad times indeed.

For the first time ever, I was just not bothered. I was out for a meal with the wife, she popped off to get a drink allowing me time to check the score. saw we had lost, possibly tutted, turned phone off then went back to a pleasant Sunday Roast. I don't get to many games these days. lucky enough to have seen them in the 70s,80s & early 90s.
I think 16 years of absolute mediocrity has just ground me down. at least them up the road have some right ups & downs whereas we have stood still inspiring no one !
No one at the club seems to be able to make some difficult decisions. I can't see us getting relegated as their are several teams worse than us. so that sadly leaves us with another year of a mid table finish..

I disagree with your son warky, there was enough desire there, they huffed and puffed but were simply not good enough. We had a couple of minor chances, but we never looked like scoring. Norwich dictated the game, and whenever they attacked, looked like scoring. All teams are now picking on our right back, which is our weakest side.
It's time to revert to a 442, and play with two out and out winger in Celina and Rowe, and play Waghorn and Garner up top

I don't think the 'lack of desire' comment is too inaccurate, Stretchy. Heads definitely dropped after Norwich's goal and we barely created anything of note after the goal. As for the atmosphere in Portman Road, it turned more exasperated and resigned, mostly due to misplaced passes and long balls up field mostly resulting in lost possession.

I agree 4-4-2 should be the way forward. I know Ward gets stick on most parts of this board, but I'd play him ahead of Rowe for Burton. Eventually, I'd like a central midfield of Adeyemi/Skuse and Huws.

We can pick the bones out of this miserable defeat for as long as we like but Mick will still soldier on! A win against Burton will paper over the cracks for at least until the next game and so this nightmare continues. Stephen King doesn't have to look too far for his new material! <laugh>

That reminds me! The Walking Dead Season 8 starts tonight! <ok>

What worries me is the clubs that are currently worse than us are more likely to change managers. If this spiral doesn't bottom out soon we may soon be looking over our shoulders. Realistically it's unlikely we'll be in danger but I'd prefer ME to act sooner rather than later; before the squad gets completely demoralised and the risk of employing an "unproven manager" is seen as too great.

Maybe Evans can persuade Roy Keane to work with Mighty Mick. That would be a dream team! <whistle>

    I'd welcome that...

...Watching Ireland go down the pan with them in charge would be Hilarious and we wouldn't have Mick anymore. Win Win.

Completely agree. First few years Mick was here we had an identity, we had a poor team and despite not liking our style of play in our playoff season, we had a identity.

We now actually have a half decent team (Mick's done very well in the transfer market) and some really promising youngsters, unfortunately we don't have any identity. We have talented players yet Mick seems to be trying to play in a way which he played before. We've got lots of players who are talented but currently after about 10 games at first team level seem to have the talent coached out of them. I've had enough now, we need a progressive manager to come in, forget about the money and blaming Evans (yes I agree he's not immune) but look at teams such as Sheff Utd, low budget team but play good football and doing well.

If we didn't play piss poor uninspiring football i'd be alot more optimistic and happy about where we were as a club.

I've had enough, only 1 manager I've ever called to be sacked and that's Mr Keane but now is time for Mick to go

Amazes me that many fans worry so much about attendances.......do they also think a film is not very good if the cinema is half empty? Or "when I got on the bus it was standing room only ....it was brilliant"

When I go to football or anywhere I feel that any empty seats next me are a bonus......and as for the atmosphere argument I can do without people shouting things they've heard on MOTD and read on the internet and passing it off as their own insight.

That said maybe I'm just getting old and unsociable.

Kind of puts a massive hole in your "biggest club in east anglia" angle though doesn't it!

Just hilarious how you bang on about that.

You got the same / lower gates in the 90s or has that all been forgotten about? We've been in this league for too long and people are bored senseless.
