"King's grit and passion"????? Did you miss out the words "lack of"? As much as I like the guy and his 'loyalty', I just wonder if the only reason he is still here is because no other club sees much in him. Ndidi is a much better ball winner, has a better engine and is stronger all round. Ed's point about Okazaki is valid to a certain extent, especially based on the 4-4-2 we are playing now. Again, I love the guy and his passion and determination but, if we are looking for a bit more guile in the centre of a 5 man midfield, I'm not sure he's the one to provide it. If we need to revert to a 4-4-2 then it's hard to argue against the fact that he has been invaluable to the team.
King this season is like Drinkwater last season - runs around a lot without doing much. In a 3 man midfield with 3 defensive minded players that would be a positive as he has it in him to boss the midfield like he used when he was younger. If Ndidi is in there then we would effectively be playing 3 DMs - would work to see off games.
When you have other players that can step into attack and score but we don't atm. Mahrez looks lively again so I wait in hope.
? Don't you remember him in the Championship - he was too good for that league during our time there. Has found the step up more difficult but can still do a job like he is doing today alongside Iborra.
We were an average Championship side, wouldn't have been promoted if he was still first choice in midfield, he was already known as the player that goes missing before we entered the prem.
Wasn't the question I asked - was just trying to get you to remember that he was our player of the season twice in a row and was one of the few bright sparks during the Sven era. Since then I agree with you but he still is a good squad player and if we play 3 in the centre, would provide a good amount of balance while not being exceptional.
I agree hes best when hes ghosting in the box as part 3, but we havn't played like that for a while. He may have won young poty, but has never won poty. 2008–09 Steve Howard 2009–10 Jack Hobbs 2010–11 Richie Wellens 2011–12 Kasper Schmeichel 2012–13 Wes Morgan 2013–14 Danny Drinkwater 2014–15 Esteban Cambiasso 2015–16 Riyad Mahrez 2016–17 Kasper Schmeichel
I recall he scored a late winner against West Ham that started the great escape in 14-15, title winning season may never have happened if he hadn’t.
He was. So easy on the ball, controls the midfield and puts in a shift too. Like the look of him Good performance Well in control of the game after we equalised and only one team going to win. Nice little cameo from Riyad A nice home tie now against Bristol City please. (More like bloody Chelsea or Man City away). Ughhhhh
