Ice Arena's make **** music venues, the two should never be combined.

The current Ice Arena is falling apart anyway, I've no idea how much demand there actually is for an Ice Arena, but if the demand exists, we need a new one.

There are many which show otherwise. Most of them of course are larger than any we will see in Hull.
The O2 arena, where my lad's favourite band, Metallica, is appearing tonight and where in the near future there will be Disney on Ice is one example.

The O2 isn’t an ice rink. Hot news.

No it isn't an ice rink, but it is an Ice Arena which stages ice shows as well as music concert. Something which should be avoided at all costs according to OLM

The O2 isn't an ice arena, the only ice in there when there's a gig on, is in the bar. <doh>

Yes. But it shows you can stage both in the same venue. A few places around the world used for ice hockey stage music events. No point trying to point that to OLM. He will post to have the last wordthen lock the thread.

re O2 and ice, does this help anyone's cause and put a stop to the bickering? Courtesy wiki...

The ground surface can also be changed between ice rink, basketball court, exhibition space, conference venue, private hire venue and concert venue.

No,,because it doesn't say OLM is right and everyone should bow to his opinions.

The ice ruins the acoustics, that's why they're rubbish as music venues.

    No ice, no issue.

It's okay to be wrong you know.

Ice should be for Gin and Tonic and Honey Whiskey.
    Acoustics!!! Now that's another matter.
I'd have thought that we could have had a 5,000 ish combined venue especially with what the Venue has cost.

They don't tend to have the ice on when there's a concert. Melting and replacing it is one of the costs.

It's the material used in the rest of the venue that can affect acoustics.

Your last sentence is the best example of lack of irony or self awareness seen on this forum.

I don't think they do at Hull Arena, despite that thick plastic flooring they put down, your feet still freeze if you stand watching anything.

The rest of the venue certainly doesn't help, you're never likely to get good acoustics in a big metal shed.

Unless they've changed, they redo the ice the following day. The ice couldn't cope with the heat of the plastic and people, you'd effectively be floating on a raft.
