We played very solid and composed football. Once again lacked the cutting edge, couldn't unlock through the middle and don't have the players to be banging in crosses over and over. We needed something to unsettle and challenge them and Boufal was simply brilliant tho his reaction to the manager was not good at all. There is obviously a lot of pent up dissatisfaction there and that did not look like a positive to me. Redmond was good when he came on, kept pushing and going forward. Austin looks like he is done at Saints, doesn't seem to care one way or another. A very important win for us and good for football that WBA got nothing for their approach.
Maybe, but over the last few games surely Sofiane should have come on first. Maybe Redmiss improved us but Sofiane scored the worldly- no real argument, we need to play him for a long run and then people will ask Redmiss who?
If I remember correctly, that is Boufal’s third goal for us and they have all been stunners. What a great goal and worthy match winner. Definitely agree that he should be given more game time, especially in the advanced midfield role, rather than on the wing. We tried for so long to pass through a packed central defence, without success, which is why you need someone who can beat players to drag others out of position to create the gaps for the passes. Reference the Tadic non penalty. I was more annoyed that he went down rather than not getting a penalty, simply because had he stayed on his feet he was favourite to get to the ball, with Foster out of his goal.
Players that can win a match from a moment of magic are like goldust and it is why we paid so much for him, the more time that he is on the pitch the higher the chance of him scoring a goal out of nothing there is, simple really.
Good point about Tadic, with what he has in his locker he really doesn't need to do that all the time?
Yep, bloody auto correct after a few pints. Great to have a player that excites and we need to enjoy again
Strangely enough I grew upon Wellow and went to school in Mountbatten. Would be great to meet for a pint
Definitely convinced now that Sofiane is out of favour. I'm starting to think MP has a plan. One plan. and he is going to stick to it come what may.
What I noticed was how dangerous we looked on the occasions when they had the ball around our box, we won it and attacked them quickly on the break. There aren’t many teams that we get to do that against and I think it looked good.
Yeah this was the perfect game for Boufal to start. West Brom were always going to sit deep and let us have the ball so if he got caught overplaying it was unlikely to lead to anything. He is also the only player we have who looks like he could unlock a team playing like that. Be interesting if he starts next week, I don’t think he will personally
In that case he is ****ed and stupid. You need to play a match winner - it is easy - you do not need any coaching badge s to see it. Sofiane will create, in a team that struggles, it is an easy decision
