I read an interesting article that should Catalonia separate from Spain, that Barcelona would seek to join the Premier League in England. This was on the basis that they would not be welcome in La Liga.

Another scenario would be if civil unrest meant their participation in the Spanish League would be problematic.

Would you guys like to them in the EPL? Should they have to join the Championship for a year?

I've been lucky enough to see a game at the Camp Nou. Back in 2008 I saw them lose 2-1 at home to Villareal. A very young Messi was injured, but Xavi, Iniesta and Ronaldinho were playing.

When you go, you definitely get the impression that they are Catalan first and Spanish second. Of course Barca is so much more than just a football club - much of it stems back to the Franco era. The Camp Nou was the only place people could go to voice their objections to the Fascist Dictator.

Barcelona is a wonderful City, and I hope things are resolved peacefully - would like your thoughts

Definitely not,the PREMIERSHIP is for English and Welsh teams.

If this happened you might as well have a league of europe 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8

This would not be viable for the fan base.

No matter what happens with Catalonia, I can't see Barcelona leaving La Liga - they need each other too much.

A European Super League is a bigger potential threat & this could be a factor in the likelihood in that happening - they'd still need to persuade at least another dozen teams to join them though & I'm not convinced they'll be able.

Yeah won't happen, but my biggest worry about this idea (and the whole Catalan independence situation) is the fact that any inkling of Barca looking elsewhere will fuel more fire for a Euro Super League.

Given that any notion of Celtic and Rangers ever being allowed into the English leagues has always been met with a flat 'no chance' response, I think Barca's chances are somewhat slim.

Tell them to join the Andorran League, it's closer.

**** no on both counts but more so to join the championship for one year.
Might be nice to say you’ve seen them, but could you imagine them losing a game to one of the championship? It would be a stroll in the park for them like training for 46 games.

Real Madrid would not want them leave and become the new Celtic. The Scottish Prem was crap before but demoting Rangers made it even worse. (Not that I’m agreeing with what Rangers done)

If they do leave La Liga then I can see the super league being born.

That's a thought ROD and perhaps the time is fast approaching when the top European clubs band together to create their own little fantasy world where they don't affect the rest of the clubs trying to compete at their peril.

Won't Brexit prevent this! It will never happen anyway so really it's a mute point.

Before Barcelona join surely you would have Celtic and Rangers kicking the door down, a big NO to all of them, let them form their super league, the rest of us will still survive..

Why should they join at Championship level anyway?

Start at level 5 minimum.. I don't care how great they think they are.

    Shouldn't be allowed anyway.

I agree with you all that it's extremely unlikely

However - Rob makes an excellent point - it could be a "spur" for a European Super League (maybe next weeks thread could be who would make up a 18 team super league)
