Transfer Rumours Barcelona messing with Liverpool?

I see the Mirror are reporting that Barcelona are going to make a move on Van Dijk in January. I suspect that this might be them playing games with Liverpool in a ploy to ultimately land them Coutinho. Bit annoying using us in the process but it’s not like he could become any more unsettled!

My best outcome now is that Barcelona end up buying VVD for a mint (whether they really want him or not).

 

VVD was linked with Barca last year. He may as well go to a team where he could win trophies if he leaves.

 

If Barca take VVD and Courtinio I would wet myself with laughter
As long as we get at least £75m I would be happy to see him leave these shores for a quiet life in Catalonia

The mirror describe him as "£50m rated" so they obviously aren't too well informed. I would love Barca to come in for him though. £75m and I'd be over the moon

If true, but probably not, would be ideal as VVD saves face by going to a bigger club than Liverpool and we get a larger fee; plus he is out of the EPL. Everyone a winner expect Liverpool; not that l care.

Strange that Barcelona chasing VVD is considered to be a blow against Liverpool rather than Southampton (who I believe have him under contract). Have to say I would rather sell him to Barca....and I expect Virgil wouldn't mind such a move either.

 

Van dijk has been invited for ages and although he has been fit for a little while he hasn't been in ful training (his fault but still) for that long at all.

He probably doesn't care as much as last season but I still don't think his indifferent form, which is only 2 games in fairness, is down to that.

 

A few more U23 games wouldn't go amiss and drop him from the first team to give Stephens and Heodt more opportunities

 

Don't see that VVD is bad enough to be dropped, though it is tough on Hoedt (and Stephens). I think it will continue to be Virgil + A. N. Other. U23 is fine for physical fitness, but Virgil needs to play in the first team to get fully match fit. We need him at his best whether we keep him or sell him. I think he will play for his team mates if not for the team (if you see what I mean). I doubt he is playing below par deliberately...he has been through a physical and self-induced emotional trauma....just needs sharpening up.

 

Rumour has it that VVD had been told he can go to Liverpool in January.
