It's reported that Bruce has said he is happy with his team and will not be in the market for anymore players! Two questions 1. Are we skint? 2. Can Bruce not see what every fan sees that even with 10 players in he has not strengthened the left hand side or replaced Bent.

It's becoming more and more apparent that although we ain't skint, Bruce is having to work within tight financial restrictions.
No doubt for me if Bruce had money, N'zog would be in our team now.

Well if we didn't have striker issues before today, I reckon it just got worse. Gyan looked lethargic (maybe overweight?) and not particularly interested. Maybe he was just sick of the ball getting lumped up to him and Sess. Taylor and Colocinni must have thought they'd won the lottery (as if they needed to) playing airball against two of our smallest players.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce bemoaned how his side wasted their chances after they lost 1-0 to Newcastle at the Stadium of Light.

Bruce felt his side dominated the first half and insisted that his side were in control until just after the hour when the winner came courtesy of Ryan Taylor's free-kick.

The Black Cats chief was far from happy with how his side failed to score when on top in the match.

"The first half in a big game like this, with the dominance we had - we had to score, the times we got down the sides and had the chances to score was incredible really and at this level when you don't take the chances you are always liable to get hit by the sucker punch, and be caught like we were," he said.

"The first half we moved the ball particularly well, and created numerous chances, second half to be fair Newcastle changed their shape a little bit as they dropped a midfielder back and as usual in games like this you have to score.

"I thought there was only one team in it first half, but they score a goal and that changes it. But up until they scored we were the better team.

"All the football in the first half, particularly, came from us so it is disappointing we could not score at that moment."

    Disappointing
Bruce admits he was disappointed in the winning goal, and he admitted goalkeeper Simon Mignolet should have done better.

"They scored from a set-piece which we are not jumping up about, we gave away a free-kick we did not need to and the goalkeeper's positioning could have been better, it was not where it should be and it was not one of Ryan's better ones and we got punished," he continued.

"But he is a young goalkeeper and there will be a few mistakes and we have to accept that, but he will be an outstanding keeper and he will learn from that today, and of course he will be disappointed and we will work with him."

Phil Bardsley saw red in the last minute for his second yellow card for diving in on Fabricio Coloccini, and Bruce insisted he had no complaints.

"We know what the rules are and we have no qualms about it, it was a yellow card and he deserved to go."

Bruce admits the fans will not be happy with the result, saying: "People don't like getting beat by Newcastle and we have to try and win them over again as we did last year and get ready for the rest of the season."

Bruce insists he did not see the main talking point of the game, which was the failure of Howard Webb to give a penalty as Seb Larsson handled Joey Barton's header on the line.

"I genuinely didn't see it, managers I know are good at saying that, and if we have got away with one - we have got away with one."

Bruce also said that he was unlikely to make another move into the transfer market, despite being linked with another striker and a winger.

"I doubt it," he said. "We have done extremely well and just because we have lost today that doesn't change that."

Are we better? Hardly any of our new siginings are apparently good enough for our first eleven, so we may have a stonger bench, but overall benches win nowt.

  12. You've spent enough ****ing money man. Steve Bruce is **** in the transfer market. He's made a few great signings like Bent, but apart from that he's not doing well enough to justify the amount he's spent.

Pretty sure it's around 150m since you's came up?
