    Morning all.
Please don't shoot me down for saying this but I honestly feel that we will see Shola step his game up a level now Andy Carroll has gone.
After reading that sentence you are probably correct in thinking that the sale of Carroll has finally pushed me over the edge into dementia, but please bear with me.
I remember a few years ago when Roeder first took over as manager, with Alan Shearer helping him. At that time Shearer and Owen were injured and Shola, for the last 3 months of the season was the main striker. If I remember correctly, and I am sure that someone can find the stats, but during this period Shola was scoring in nearly every match or every other match.
I am convinced that this was because he was the main man and he thrived on being in that situation.

At the beginning of last season he looked good until he was injured and then when he returned Carroll had become the main striker, so Shola was back in his familiar role of 2nd or 3rd choice. Now he is back to being our first chioce striker I would not be surprised to see him start scoring on a regular basis.

We all know he has the ability and this may be the last opportunity he gets to prove that he should be the main striker.

Or maybe I am clutching at more straws than a masterbating scarecrow?

shola i mean, they all need to stand up and be counted, score goals for the team and to put 4 or 5 past the bin dippers at anfield

I think Shola is really the unsung hero at Newcastle United. Yes, some fans will now call me crazy.

However, over the last ten years, when the going has got tough and we've struggled, he is the only striker to stick with us through thick and thin, and don't say it it's because no one else would take it as it's a lie, proven by Birmingham's rejected bid earlier this transfer window. Furthermore, when he has a run in the team, he has a pretty decent goals returns. Yes, it isn't going to set the world alight but he has contributed over the years. Finally, he has put himself through pain and injuries to play for this club and to wear the shirt we all so dearly love.

Carroll may call himself a geordie but Ameobi is definitely the real geordie hero and I fully expect him to end this season very strongly.

Cometh the moment, cometh the man! Is Shola the man though? He's been loyal enough but he's no Andy.

Plus, everybody in the game knows how important the #9 shirt is to us and it'll be an added attraction to whoever comes in ( if anybody does come in ) to replace Andy.

Just checked the stats for that season and Shola scored 8 goals in the last 14 league games.

THE TIME OF SHOLA IS UPON US!!!

If he can keep fit he will score the odd goal. Also what was wrong with him 2nd half v spurs? he looked way off the pace

Shola is a proper Toon player.

He's had chances to leave - and was so far down the pecking order you wouldn't have blamed him for wanting to - but he always chose to stay.
He didn't even want to go on loan to Stoke that time, and turned down the option to go permanent and instead preferred to stay at Newcastle as third/fourth choice striker.

Whenever he's been called upon, and our big name / mercenary strikers have been 'injured', Shola has taken injections and lead the line. He played an entire season needing an operation on his hip - remember that!?

He's always offside, and has that weird lanky run that makes him look lazy - but as a holding player there isn't actually many better in the league (I genuinely believe that) and he has the ability to pop up with important goals out of nowhere.

And he's proved time and time again when given a consistent run of games, his form improves.

Plus, he's put a load past the great unwashed down the road. That in itself deserves a knighthood.

    Here's to Shola<cheers>

Well Shola will be the main forward for the second half of the season and I sure have faith he can do a job leading the line.

I think were gonna see Best as the main forward for the rest of the season and he will be partnered with Shola/Hatem/Nolan. Plenty of 15 minute cameo's from Ranger aswell.
