I always felt that the 1970 team was our best - the game against Brazil was fantastic and England were the only team that could match them.
We all know Southgate is going nowhere while England are qualifying for any tournaments. We are just fillers when it comes to tournaments & it won’t change in our lifetime!
Probably the most depressing qualification for a WC that I've seen from England: borne into a qualifying group that even Patty could have steered us through. Even under Hodgson, we'd light up Wembley. Direct action needed and let's not be distracted by the most dismal qualifying campaign we've ever qualified from.
The push in injury time was in stark contrast to the previous 90 minutes, first real concerted attempt to pressurise, and there you have it a goal. Too much respect shown to massively mediocre opponents. Let's just see some fire, that's all I want. Too many England games since the turn of the millennium (IMO) are no more intense than a pre-season friendly.
Let's be honest here .. we ain't a good team but the manager doesn't help .. he seems more afraid of losing then intent on going for wins .. but I guess it's job done .. he succeeded in getting us to Russia .. Let's see how we fare against some of the better teams
Agree, I hate international breaks and rarely watch any game - but if I do it's usually Ireland or Scotland - they are pretty ****e too but they try and attack and have a go , and the games are usually more entertaining overall
