Seriously, would he actually take the job? Or take it back a step, would Scally really think about talking to him about it?

I know we're not Leeds and its not 1974, and Evans certainly ain't Brian Clough, but if Scally really wants to alienate the hardcore fans then there's probably no more appropriate appointment.

Ok on a more serious note, Mansfield Town have confirmed they have REJECTED an approach for Steve Evans by Gillingham this afternoon.

Despite Gillingham FC not wanting to comment, I have checked and this is the official twitter account of the club...

He would fit rather snugly into the 'off the wall' category of manager Scally has been touting

Will this action help to win over fans to the real successful candidate. As in "Thank God it's not Evans!" Mind games?

I thought Scally wanted an ' off-the-wall ' manager - not one that all Gills fans would throw off a cliff !

Personally i would have no problem with Evans being manager. I may call him every name going but that is football rivalry and banter.

However, from a fan perspective, Scally is so out of touch, he has seriously lost the plot!

Your generosity might extend to a relatively limited number of fellow supporters, but I'd wager a fairly large bet that even those who would be prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt at first would be on his case the moment things started to go wrong.

In other words I'd give him about two weeks.

If Scally really believes that such an appointment would not be a total disaster then he really has lost the plot. Thankfully it appears that it won't be happening, but this is football, and Paul Scally, we're talking about here.

What is wrong with you lot. The guy has 6, yes SIX promotions on his CV and not one single failure but you don't want him because you don't like him. What a precious bunch some of you are ! In what sense would this be a total disaster. Some of you seriously need to get a grip. You don't want successful managers you don't want failures. You don't know what the hell you want.

As i said above, i would take him. However, i do also remember that it was a fellow not606 member who he got arrested along with a family member. Personally i was even approached for a national tabloid story, which was declined. So i do get why a lot of supporters are upset considering the misgivings at the time. So along with getting a gauge of GFC supporter feeling on social media i also accept an Evans appointment will not be popular.

Hey but that's life, we all have different views, including, yours, mine and everyone else on here <ok>

Big risk to go for Evans. Done a great job managing teams but has huge baggage with him. Scally must be mad. Will completely divide supporters and i think could destroy all faith in Scally. Could save our season but could also destroy it. Long term aswell.

You 'sound' a young person - you will learn that the precious things in life are friends, health and happiness You will notice that I made no mention of money - money only makes your misery a little more comfortable !................................ there you go - alwaysright can be profound !

.......... money - success - power can often lead you to being despised - especially if you are not magnanimous or gracious, and willing to be fair with your good fortune -- which in many instances, has been obtained through some exploitation of weaker people. ( a bit like the Pemier League / Sky / BT )

Waldo the question I would ask to you is would Evans have managed those promotions without the massive cash investment that both Crawley and Rotherham had during his tenure? Both had a lot more financial clout at the time he was in charge and thus he could buy the players he wanted.

When the money ran out at Rotherham, he left and what was left behind led them to a relegation scrap for 2/3 years. He joined Leeds and didn't bring them any success at all. Appreciated he was there at a difficult time but Leeds were also heavily backed financially and they should have finished a lot higher than they did and he lost his job because the owner didn't like him that much. Mansfield with a small budget he's done ok at but comments he has made publicly about us in the past isn't acceptable.

I do not want somebody in charge of my club who has already alienated and insulted our fans in the past, made allegations to the Police about a club legend and also somebody who was convicted of tax evasion. Our club has had too much bad publicity over the last 12 months and we don't need somebody with his awful tongue to bring us even further backwards.

For once i will concede that i am probably wrong in my thoughts of giving Evans a chance. However, i'm not often wrong ;)

Joking aside, despite me thinking Evans could actually do a good job for us, i do think Scally is out of touch with the majority of supporters, as this will only please the minority, and i am happy to concede i would rather give Evans a miss than see him alienate so many fans, and not often you would read me say that!

Just because I support the Gills, doesn't mean I can't be philosophical - I was trying to give Waldo a life lesson.,................. I could give him another one by saying " if you support The Gills you can cross off happiness."
