Poor game today, average in most positions and Brizzle moved the ball too quickly for us. I saw many promising moves break down because nobody wanted to play a killer pass forward and the ball would end up with Bart again. Not a great game today.
At least we've got 2 weeks before the next game and I will be away in Rhodes for a relaxing week in the Sun. I get back on Derby day! I'm fooked if I will be going though so Gaffer will have to wait a little bit longer for his Pint!
Oh dear, back to being second best and reacting to the opposition rather than carrying the game to them. Only (small) positive was the return of Webster, as we deperately need two proper centre backs against anyone with the merest hint of a physical presence up front or at set pieces.
Oh and it could be worse....try being a Birmingham fan! I hope those cnuts get relegated! Never liked them!
I did say in the thread earlier we are a completely different proposition this year. Keep believing guys,us I think we are serious top six candidates.
Ha ha! I wish, she was 40 miles away and does stir occasionally when I get excited....about the footie!
The crowd was low, under 16k for a 5th vs 7th battle. Is that the norm at Portman Road these days? I thought you were as well supported as the Carrot Road mob, clearly not.
There was so much wrong with that performance. The reason why the crowd is so low is that type of performance has been the norm over the past 8/9 years and even if we are where we are why would you pay good money to see that poor excuse of a football side. I used to attend PR very regularly and still venture back from time to time (I too far to go regularly) in the hope that it will be better than the last time but it was sooo boring although it was still better than last time I saw Ipswich. I long for the days when 9 times out of 10 you'd see an entertaining match even of we lost you wouldn't be too disheartened because at least we gave it a go and tried to put the opposition under some sort of sustained pressure rather than playing percentage football in the hope that we'll pull something off. These days it's more like 1 time out of 10 is a good game and that's probably overestimating. I've been fortunate enough to watch the past 2 seasons best performances as voted by the fans either at the ground or on tv and have to say whilst we played well they were nothing to write home about. I'm beyond caring now how many points we have on the board, I can't bear to watch another game of some team attempting to play something which resembles football anymore, please Mick just go, I can't say you're ruining our football club because you're not but you certainly take the fun and the glory out of football
A few thoughts on the game from me. Make no bones about it Bristol were a very good team but also make no bones about it we have enough talent in our squad (I don't care about the lack of resources we have some good players) to give Bristol a game. We were soo static both on and off the ball it was ridiculous. Bristol had so much space due to their movement and our lack of it was ridiculous. On the ball also the players rather than pass and move seem to just be waiting for something to happen giving the person on the ball very little option, to me this isn't just down to the personel this is down to tactics and coaching. We were losing for the majority of that game and at no time did we put Bristol under any sustained pressure. I wish Mick would sort out our midfield rather than just overloading us with strikers, you can have as many strikers on the pitch as you like but if you don't have the supply line or a midfield you know will keep the ball it's a waste of time. Bart - 6 - didn't really make any saves of note but didn't have much chance with the goals Iorfa - 4 - terrible performance, why do we even have this lad when we have a half decent youngster in Emmanuel who we've shipped out on loan? Spence - 5 - poor first half performance, positionally he was terrible but to be fair to him he's not a CB Chambers - 6 - fairly poor performance but did some good defensive work Knudson - 5 - again why do we have a player who is so bang average in our team when we have a half decent youngster who doesn't get s chance. Nydam - 7 - A bit niave sometimes but was let down by those around him and you can definitely see a good player in there. He was the only player who seemed to want the ball, let's hope Mick doesn't coach this out of him. Skuse - 6 - wouldn't say it was a good performance however he didn't frustrate me how he normally does, he actually looked for the most part to try to play the ball forwards and support the attack. Celina - 6 - flattered to deceive for the most part but you can see a good player there who will make stuff happen. Unfortunately because he didn't have the support of the team around him it seems he gave the ball away by trying too much Waghorn - 6 - looks a handful but he is wasted out wide, Mick please play him centrally (don't make the same mistake as you have with Sears who now looks a shadow of his former self) McGoldrick - 6 - clearly our best player but for me still flatters to deceive often too deep for a striker, doesn't get in the box enough and seems to try to do too much. He plays too much with the play in front of him which imo makes us look unbalanced. Controversial but I wouldn't have him in the team and would play another striker up top with Garner. Garner - 7 - huffed and puffed but didn't have a lot to work with. Up against 2 man mountains not alot he could do really
I missed the match and couldn't listen either but its typical Town to build you up then knock you back down again, City are a good side and are going well but we have to get that defence sorted out. Ive heard people say Iorfa is good going forward but that's not what hes there for, his principal job is to stop attackers coming down the flank and putting crosses into our box and in this hes very poor up to now, perhaps with Webster coming back we can reorganise the defence and put him on the bench, I know its still early days but losing at home is not a good habit to get into.
Iorfa was very poor going forwards also, he looked like Bambi on ice, although to be fair in possession the players don't seem to help each other out, they all just stand around waiting for something to happen rather than moving into space or demanding the ball. From what I've seen I've no idea why we've sent one of our own in Emmanuel out on loan as he looks better than Iorfa and Kenlock looks far better than Knudson.
