Not a strong pick but Wedding Photo does not need to be anything out of the ordinary to win the 8.10 at Chelmsford on debut for Godolphin at a track they dominate at. 7/2 is bigger than I would have priced it up.

Hello, crew. I see that Alan King has described Coeur De Lion’s run on Saturday as ‘a cracker’. Almost certainly won’t get in the ‘Cesarewitch’ though unless, and I quote, ‘a mass exodus’ takes place. His Flat perch has been booted up to 83 after his most recent run (but he remains on 79 in the 'Ces' listings as it was an early closing heat) and it will be interesting to see if he’s kept to the Level or returned to the NH sphere for something like the ‘Greatwood’. If I had to choose I’d say he’s better handicapped on the Flat but, of course, another summer on his back could lead to rapid improvement when put back over hurdles.

I trust we all got our money back though, following Saturday’s effort, as surely my proferred bookie chappie isn’t the only one in the land who offers the concession – ‘money back if your animal finishes 2nd to one owned by Mr Ponsonby’.

Great. 2nd at 6/1 and 8/1 brought down 2 out when in second place. Saves me looking for the Chelmsford results <laugh>

Thanks for reminding us of your weekend loser Barney. You and Woolly convinced me and NO I didnt get my money back!
He looked a very tough ride for a little lass like Hollie Doyle. If he runs on the flat again I expect a strong lad to be on him.
Kings best chance of winning the main event next month rests with First Mohican in my opinion although I wouldnt be rushing to back anything in front of Dubawi Fifty!

In the next I thought Atlanta Bay looked worth a go each way and took 22/1 a bit earlier, there's been a bit of money and into 12s in places now so fingers crossed

SHACKLED N DRAWN is starting to look a very risky proposition but is off a lovely mark tonight and at 50/1 you dont need to risk too much to win big

I say, Stick, that’s a bit harsh! Although I’m a bit unsure who you’ve insulted the most – me or the Doyle filly!

I thought her ride was alright about Coeur De Lion. I’m no defender of jockeys and will regularly lament them for their deficiencies unlike so many on here – I mean there are still people on this forum (‘the McCoy apologists’) who won’t admit that ‘wee Anthony’ stuffed it up in 3 ‘Champion Hurdles’ during the period 2009-14. In contrast though I thought the Doyle filly was satisfactory and to borrow old boy Len Goodman’s hung up paddle, I award her, ‘sev-ennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn’.

What you have done though is thought up a wonderful idea for a thread each Monday morn – ‘Dr Sir Barney Chuckles OBE VC MFI M&S reflects on his weekend losers’. I trust the moderators will do the necessary set-ups to enable this to become a regular feature.

First Mohican is an interesting call having slipped to a reasonable looking perch of 97 (ran 2nd in the race last year off a pound higher). In so many ways he resembles the yards Grumeti who won the ‘Ces’ back in ’15. Although you know who his regular pilot is, don’t you?!?
