If he was english the media would orgasm over him. He scored 18 goals in the premiership last season, despite being out for half of it. If he wasn't as injury prone as a stick, he would be up there with Messi, Ronaldo, and, well, I don't know who the third guy is, it used to be kaka but he's not that good anymore, so I'd say Xavi/Iniesta/Fabregas. And yes, as an Arsenal fan, I'm not afraid to admit this: If he was playing for a more efficient team such as Madrid or Barca, he would have scored a lot more by now. I would put him in a world XI, in a front three of RVP, Messi and David Villa. And I posted this on the other boards to ask this: Liverpool have Suarez, City have Aguero, and Man United have Rooney. Flagship Strikers, but none as good as Robin Van Persie. I'd say Aguero is the closest. No, I'm not wetting myself over the Swansea game, he was brilliant for Athletico as well, long before he joined City. Suarez is not far behind. He has a ****load of skill, and might just catapult liverpool to the top four, or the FA cup. As for Rooney, on his day, he can be brilliant (Overhead kick vs City, etc). But we don't see enough of it. Last season was a HUGE dissapointment, and don't say 'OFF THE FIELD PROBLEMS'. He hired a ****ing prossie. His fault. And then he winged so much that United had to give him a new contract, but if I was Fergie, I would look at Hernandez and say 'Nah, we don't need Rooney' and go and sign Aguero with the saved cash. If you were in charge of, say, Madrid, and you could buy ANY striker you wanted, would you pick Rooney? I wouldn't. He's too much of a liability, and he'd put a Tevez-like situation on the club, where he'd be like 'Coleen hates Spain cause there's no poundland here, I wanna move to ITALY'. If he was say, French, the english media wouldn't give a ****. I would go as far to say this: If Van Persie was english, england MAY have won a tournament recently. What england lacked at the world cup was rooney, who was a disappointment for many, scoring zero goals for England. With a world class striker it may have been a different story. Think about it, in the final group game, if england had won... 2-0, they would have finished first, and faced much easier opposition than Germany. England might have made it to the Semis with any luck (our initial target). And Van Persie could have done that. He can do a beckham-esque free kick, while scoring amazing goals up front. He's been there, done that in major competitions, being good for holland, scoring against Barca in the champions league, etc. So if he was, Robbie Percy or something, England would have fared far better. Proof indeed that he is world class. Now, I hope that in the future, he is luckier with injuries, for arsenal's sake. And that better treatment can be found than Horse Placenta. In a season where arsenal's top four position is severely doubted, there are two ways Arsenal can compete. 1) Wenger sings players like Cahill, Mata, Hazard, Benzema... OR 2) Van Persie and Vermaelen are fit for a whole season. Neither of which are likely. But if number 2 happens, expect to see Van Persie at the top of the goalscoring charts, which is nothing less than he deserves.
hmmm in principle i would say he is one of the best, but the best at the moment?, not sure, i think more time is needed to answer properly Oh and sergio aguero looks like a hell of a player
I think you have spent a lot of time on a very biased opinion that nobody will discuss, the thread belongs on the Arsenal board. If I was able to delete the thread I would.
You have basically said in other words that he is the best striker in the world on his day. I could probably name 10 better on their day, good player but nowhere near the best, thread should simply be deleted for even mentioning Messi and Ronaldo.
I stopped reading after the 2nd sentence, that summed it up really, he has bags of talent but what use is that if you can't manage to play enough games to actually make good use of it.
I would have Drogba, Torres, Suarez, Aguero, Tevez and Rooney ahead of him when fit. And that's just in the PL.
I read the title of the thread and just came on to say......... Is he **** the best in the prem His injury record's poor and my pet goat could score a few goals the number of chances Arsenal create (only Kidding about the pet goat) If Wanger bothered to buy another striker you wouldn't be so Reliant on Robin
