Quiet on here tonight. I miss the Liverpool lads, maybe if they win a game they will come back. ;)

Tenerife, had I known what September was to bring, might have done that myself. Bored of rain now.

England women's manager Mark Sampson has been sacked. From what's quoted, it sounds like he had sex with a player while Bristol manager.

    Academy manager you mean?

So seeing as there is no police involvement are you suggesting he had sex with a 16 year old player?

Well it's nothing illegal but it's a safeguarding issue that's bad enough for him to get the sack from the England job, it's all been classed as 'unacceptable' and 'inappropriate' behaviour for a manager of England... Sounds like having sex with someone who's above the age of consent to me. Although if I'm right, and the player was 16, then given that he was roughly 31 (and manager of the club at the time) that is pretty messed up.

And yeah, they were Bristol Academy at the time, now they're Bristol City.

I agree you could well be right... impossible to know for sure though it seems most likely.

It will all come out in the end I imagine.

Umm see as it is more then one person that came forward, I doubt it is just sex.

    Also I posted this....

The allegations relate to Sampson’s time at Bristol Academy, where he worked first with 10- to 16-year-olds at the club’s centre of excellence and later as the senior first-team coach. The allegations were made by more than one player and are said by the FA chairman, Greg Clarke, to range from the “trivial to the very serious”.

Cannot be very serious because the FA spokesman said that he is fit to coach football and poses no safeguarding risk. It may be that, as in teaching, there are higher standards than in normal life....dating an overage player perhaps? Bristol Academy also didn't consider him a safeguarding risk. The FA may have jumped because a newspaper article is about to come out....highly possible if journalists have been sniffing around because of the racist charge. He hasn't got a gagging order* so we may hear his side soon....especially if he struggles to find other work.

*Gagging orders are usually in place if you are paid off...whereas he has only received money due under his contract. Makes me wonder if he was never offered any more money or if he refused it as he wants to speak out.

Well anything more than sex would probably be into the whole illegal area... Plus, if it were simply dating a playing who happened to be in their 20s, then I doubt a safeguarding complaint would have been made so it's got to be something more than that. So I still stand by either sex or dating someone who is technically above the age of consent, but below the age of majority... so someone who was 16 or 17.

However, an additional point is that this report was published ages ago but the FA only just found out about it. Interesting that the FA are not hiding their incompetence.

From what I have read it sounds like it was multiple players when he was in charge of u19s at Bristol Academy. I'm assuming all the players were old enough for it to not be illegal, but it is a safeguarding issue. Happened 3 years ago and sounds like the FA either didn't do enough checks before appointing him, or weren't that bothered by it as he was cleared by Bristol when he was investigated there. I guess this is maybe one of the things that, with the woman's game being the most popular it ever has been, maybe comes out. Doubt many football fans had any idea who Mark Sampson was a couple of years ago.

Even if the players were 18 or 19, it's still a massive abuse of power and trust because coaches, like teachers, are in a position of responsibility and so should act in accordance with that responsibility. Particularly when they're so much older and in a senior position relatively to the players in question, the whole power dynamic is skewed so it's an unequal relationship, hence why such things are problematic.

And honestly Mark, keep it in your pants. You're a grown man, surely you can control your urges when they're inappropriate. I know you shouldn't judge people by their appearance, but he always looked like a bit of a 'lad' to me.

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves and adding 2 and 2 together to make 5. May be no more than making a pass at a girl....unacceptable when you are in a position of authority, but not a hanging offence. Several complaints may be about the same offence. It will come out eventually....let's not start a witchhunt.

Again more then one complained and the offences ranged from trivial to very serious. That is what we know, so it is more then one offence.

It will soon be illegal to refer to the colour of anything! The problem is that decisions like this actually encourage racism, as it gives people an excuse to moan at any liberal movements.

I agree. Often the people who are perceived as being offended by such things are not at all offened, and such 'offense' is based on assumptions by people not even in the group of in question (i.e. non-white) without any consultation or dialogue with those who it is claimed would be offended by such things. Essentially someone is saying what someone else finds offensive... I'm sorry, but you can't do that. Just like you can't say what doesn't offend other people, you can't say what offends them either. What someone is offended by is based on their own perspective, not someone else's and in fact, you're being offensive by removing or disregarding their agency.

We are swiftly heading for the thought police...where we get paralyzed from having reasonable discussions about problems. If you can't do that, you can't find solutions. A recent example....a poster designed to offer help to women and girls facing a forced marriage. The female model used was a white, blonde....because obviously that's the group that is experiencing difficulties. Another was the Labour MP attacked by her party for suggesting there is a problem in some cities with Asian men targeting white children. There are dreadful people out there who are racist, but let's not target them...because they are big* and scary....let's just get our knickers in a twist** about slips of the tongue or perhaps even daring to speak the truth.

*I apologise in case I have offended big people....I fully accept that small people can be racists as well.

**I apologise in case I have offended women....I fully accept that men can get their Y-fronts/boxers in a twist as well.
