Did a lot for wildlife as well as steam preservation railways as well as being a great artist. Nowadays everything is supposedly art and equally valid but give me this over an unmade bed or a pile of bricks anyday- please log in to view this image
Nowadays? The unmade bed (My Bed) is from 1998 and the pile of bricks (Equivalent VIII) is from 1972. The very fact that you're referencing art from over 40 years ago surely means the artists have probably achieved what they set out to do. Though it's all subjective, innit?
Just read up and the bricks, or Equivalent VIII to give it its proper name, only cost just over 2 grand. I thought 72 was a bit early and the press stuff was around 76 time. I remember it been on john cravens newsround. As you say des, it's still in all our memory bank. Also the bloke who did it's uncle was Raymond Baxter. That'll stick with ya now.
What ere the finalists for the Turner Prize like? When they had City Of Culture in Derry/Londonderry one of the finalists was a naked bloke pissing in a bucket.
You could buy a terraced house for not much more in those days. The builders could call have done that so called work of art but the artist couldn't have built a house.
William G was a big favourite in my house back when I was at university. We’d tune in most days. However, along with one of his phrases from the show, I wonder if all condolences had to be on ‘postcards only please’? RIP William G
