Well last two games, I'm getting accustomed to predicting goal feats even if the Gills did not get that second goal that I predicted against Shrewsbury. So what about Oxford, well if anyone does take any notice of my ramblings, this is one game where I will not be expecting a goal feast! <<< but i'm wrong about a lot of things So what of Oxford, one of my greatest memories ever was travelling up to them in the 1983-84 season, over 30 years ago... I'm sure it was an evening game, Oxford were top of the league and actually won the Old Third Division (League One) that season, but if anyone would like to go look at the stats for that season they will see where Gills for once actually sent the travelling faithful home very happy. The League Table for 1983-84 will show only one home defeat to Oxford United, inflicted by none other than the Mighty Gills, now not looking at the history books here and just from memory, Gills snatched a very early goal, can't remember who scored, but for the rest of the game we sat back and took an absolute barrage of attacks for the remainder of the game, how we survived I will never know, but if AP wanted lessons in defensive tactics he need look know further than that game. In more recent years, I've travelled back to the Manor Ground or whatever it is called these days, went there with my friend alwaysright, much had changed from the old days, although they forgot to finish one quarter of the ground, now what club does that remind you of - At that end of the ground if you volleyed over the net you reached the car park! The boozer was pretty decent behind that end too, where you could sup with home supporters without any of the aged old problems. So after all that rambling I predict... Oxford 1-0 Gills Sorry guys but our last nine league meetings have seen no more that one goal. ps. if anyone knows who scored that winning goal for us in 1983/84 please let me know, I'm thinking Dave Mehmet but that's just a vague guess.
I might have got a little too excited there and forgot to make a prediction. Oxford 1 v 2 Gillingham (Pawlett, Nash, Eaves) 2 goals and both from strikers, ever the optimist.
Oxford 1 - 2 Gillingham (Parker, Eaves) If I keep going with this all season, I must get one right at least...surely?
