If Ollie hasn't signed any defenders and only wingers then maybe he is looking to have attacking wing backs with three central defenders. Starts off with a back five and they spread out to a line of four if one of the wingers is taking the ball up the pitch. It can work providing there is a good understanding at the back.

Either that or we couldn't afford any decent defenders!

There's the problem, last time we had a good understanding at the back was when Dunne and Clint ran the show under Harry...

Think bircham should keep his mouth shut next time when doing a interview & quoting transfers to be done early & have back ups, majority on here including me didn't expect much & didnt, but will give my backing to wheeler & smyth,

TBH Aussie I think a bit is being missed, this is an exert from a piece that Clive wrote on LFW explaining the FFP situation and helps explain why we're doing what we're doing....

Up in Birmingham, they’ve signed a striker who would fit perfectly into the current QPR system. Sam Gallagher, 6ft 4ins, 21-years-old, product of a superb Southampton academy, a dozen goals in an awful Blackburn team last season (including two v QPR), great in the air, more mobile than Matt Smith, better back-to-goal game than anybody we’ve got on our books, perfect six-pack… he is, potentially, the perfect Championship point man.

Well, I say signed, I mean borrowed for a bit. Borrowed for a bit at a cost of £1.5m. Borrowed for a bit as long as they up his £10,000-a-week Southampton wage to £18,000. Borrowed for a bit at an overall cost of £43,000 a week. Money which, if Birmingham don’t get promoted, which doesn’t look very likely at the moment, will be entirely dead in a year’s time when Gallagher goes back to Southampton and they’re several million lighter and still short of a striker.

Amongst this lunacy, which is now widespread throughout the top two divisions, QPR aren’t even shopping at Lidl, they’re rummaging through the bins round the back of Kwik Save. The clickbait claim Rangers were about to pay £3m-£3.5m for Nouha Dicko (who went to Hull ‘instead’) presumably cooked up by somebody who hasn’t been paying attention. The suggestion from one of the more wilfully ignorant QPR Twitter accounts that “Lazy Les” had been enjoying his Bank Holiday or, rather more despicably, “too busy talking about Grenfell” and been beaten to the Dicko signing something of a low among many lows in the world of QPR on social media.

I say this a lot, but a quick glance through the LFW Twitter mentions tells you it’s probably worth spelling out an umpteenth time – maybe some finger puppets would help? The current Financial Fair Play rules mean QPR cannot lose more than £37m across the 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons. The last set of accounts, covering the 2015/16 season, showed a loss of £11m despite the maximum parachute payment, the Charlie Austin sale and the Raheem Sterling sell on all coming in. With reduced parachute payments, no Austin money and no Sterling money QPR have to find a way to ‘only’ lose £26m across 2016/17 and 2017/18. Otherwise it’s a transfer embargo, and what players we do have will have to be sold off on the cheap – please see Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers for examples of what happens in those circumstances. That’s without even addressing the previous FFP breach for which a result is due any day. It’s also without considering whether the board want to continue funding QPR’s losses to the tune of even £11m. Saying this to people who believe we’ve got £3m from Josh Bowler shloshing around, and that there are loads of good players out there for that amount in the current market that QPR are choosing not to sign for fear of making it too easy for themselves, makes you “an attention seeker” or “celebrity fan wannabe” or “on the sauce”.

Personally I think we've done well, gone back to what we used to do, buy low, develop, sell on at a profit....

Kudos to Les, Hoos, Holloway and Co.....

Nice and clear from Clive. Sadly I can't see how we can keep our losses to under £11m per year, with lower parachute payments, hardly any TV revenue and virtually no player sales revenue.

This is the reality of where we find ourselves, all thoughts of the premier league extinguished until our academy produces a few little diamonds, a few exciting days mixed with some bad days, we are a championship side and with luck we will stay a championship side

Nor can I Stan. Sky have announced games to be shown up to 19th November and the only game we're on telly is on 29th Sept against Fulham.
Have to hope that in January window, some bottom 6 Prem sides panics and offers £15m for Smithies.....:emoticon-0148-yes:

If they keep loses to around £10m - £15m Hoos will have done a good job........off course in any other industry he'd get the sack but this is football so different rules apply......

Scowen has already exceeded expectations and has proved to be an exceptional signing.
Wheeler looks useful and I expect him to quickly appear in the first team.
Smyth will hopefully develop and start to appear as a sub.

Plus, we have both Hall and Cousins to return from injury.

If we can do some defensive coaching, then we may be able to field a competitive team. Sure they will not be the league winners, but if they compete, work hard, and continually learn and improve their performance, then there could be a positive foundation of a good team.

I believe that our start with 7 points from 5 tricky games in August is a good start and better than I expected.

I am relatively please with how we made business and I think we are going the correct direction.

Honestly cannot understand the criticism of our defenders or defenders in general ... to me the current game is an evolutionary stage and even £100M defenders will in a course of a season look like Sunday league players. QPR to me are playing now with a range of new tactics. We have some real talent currently and say that we only focus on the mistakes because we as fans have no adapted yet. A run of clean sheets will make our current defensive players look the best in the league if this current momentum builds. I like the fact that we currently have a team of defenders in every position

The onus is currently all on attacking football with the rule changes and directives from the Refs

It time to build again and it is happening. I feel sorry for Birmingham as they have a dinosaur as a manager so let enjoy watching that go tits up

Cardiff game was very good as i watch all games via the QPR site in France and its outstanding by the way so those who haven't done so in the UK do a VPN

Cardiff central defensive pair look solid at the moment but that is down to the confidence factor and the attacking flair that team has

Looked a bit naff when we scored through Smith but the difference is they wanted to put that howler right at the other end and they did

We need to feel lucky that we have Caulker Onuoha Bidwell Furlong Perch ( big miss) Lynch and Hall plus the best keeper in the championship or even the UK
A few clean sheets and we will see a different team IMO

I like this current QPR team

I pay £5 a match and the quality is superb full HD as I airplay it from a desktop Mac onto a 4K TV Andy Sinton is very good
No reason why anyone can't activate a VPN on a desktop machine on a Saturday afternoon in the UK or Ireland and do the same. You would need to buy your match pass while inside your VPN and you should get the match. I am in France for our next match but when I am in the UK as i am now I will try it and let the board know as its worth doing it. It looks like it has to be a desktop and a desktop browser. It means no QPR fan should miss a single live championship match

From Clive's narrative it seems that selling is a key component

I can forsee Smithies going to a prem side as a no 2 backup to balance the books

Meanwhile caulker needs to go asap
