Yep. If you ever intend to have animals in the house, don't have loop pile carpets. Inevitably they will grab a loop in a paw, not be able to release themselves and pull a line of carpet all the way out until it breaks or you rescue the animal.

Wooden legged furniture can almost be as bad, because the grain catches the pile. You move the furniture along the ground and bingo.!

I'll add if you are ever going to get Chihuahuas, don't put deep pile WHITE carpet in the lounge. Oh and don't feed them processed chicken if you are in a hurry and don't have their real dog food and then leave them in the house for a couple of hours.....

Let me simplify that. Don't have deep pile white carpet anywhere for whatever reason. Unless you never ever intend to enter the room it is laid in. ;)

I've fitted them twice in customers bedrooms. Cost a packet [unless they're crap] and last about 6 weeks before you start getting the first impressions that they're not new anymore, because people will simply refuse to walk around, 100% of the time, hovering one inch above the pile. And that's in the best of situations.

I usually ask people to think again if they specify white carpet, especially long pile. Besides which, carpet fitters routinely cut themselves, whether it is grazing themselves on gripper or getting a snick from the cutting blade [it's never serious, but you will bleed]. Get anything on a white carpet and it shouts imperfection at you [or worse - you're going to have to replace it at your time and cost]. Out with those trimming scissors.! And long pile carpet traps smells and dirt like no other. You'll always be vacuuming, just to keep the stink and dirt to a minimum after a year or two. :)

I fitted a glittery purple long pile carpet up some period winding stairs a few months back. Despite my asked for advice to the customer, she was keen that glittery purple was what she wanted and I must say that it did look unexpectedly good in the surroundings.

Happy Birthday old bean - I turn 51 this year and apart from a few extra aches and pains each year it's no hardship growing older yet for me. Just remember when you're approaching 50 in a couple of years, it's only a significant birthday if you believe it's important that your age ends in a zero.
Every year I grow wiser (my opinion and indeed my definition of wise, and I'm sticking to it) and in about 200 years I'll be wiser than Godders.

I hope you're on commission because I think you've got a sale from Mrs Q. This dog needs 24 hour covert surveillance.

Oh I'm looking forward to that big one... it's an excuse to do something extra special :)

I have two options at the moment I'm considering. One is a trip to Argentina to see Boca Juniors play. The wife thinks that's a bit extravagant for a lads football trip :emoticon-0114-dull: so if we can afford it, might do that with a wine trip and take the girls. My other idea is to go to the west coast of Ireland to where Mrs Fats' cousin lives. Just off the coast is an island about 100 yards long (well, a rock) with one house, no power or amenities but they take you over on a rowing boat and give you enough provisions for the weekend or week. She doesn't fancy that at all, but I do. Back to the wild.

The first one will be a few grand, so may not happen. The barren island is only a few hundred and is looking favourite. The wife will stay with her cousin and bring any emergency provisions:)
