Morning playmates ... big family day out to my local track Chester today - 8 of us out on the lash and looking to have a great day out . I'm hoping that the racing gods smile on us tomorrow but just for real certainty would be delighted with the forums combined knowledge to tip me a winner or two . So - come one come all - post me your picks please . I'll post my tentative selections later and let's roll the dice . If anyone else is going then happy to meet up for a beer !! The weather looks set - all I need now is the bookies cash !! Cheers in advance .... be lucky
2:30 - Silvanus 14/1 ew, knows how to win and trainer has hit a bit of form recently 3:05 - Confessional 15/2 ew, been running pretty well lately and likes it here, granted it doesn't win too often but solid ew bet. 4:15 - Calder Prince 7/2 Win, been running well, favourable draw, decent trainer. Enjoy your day
3.35 York- STAR STORM - 14/1 Was third in the Duke of Edinburgh lto when not getting a clear run, getting interference at crucial times. The form has been boosted since, with the winner going up 13lbs since the race having won again. and a few behind him that day have run some solid performances since. This is the second time SS has tried again over 1m4f and you could argue he didn't quite get home over 2m late last year but the step up to tomorrow's distance looks sure to suit with him seeing his races out over shorter extremely well. Drawn in stall 20, horses in double figures have won 8 out of the 9 years so everything looks sure to point to a big run
CHAIN OF DAISIES 5/1 Windsor 6:40 Beat none other than Ulysses to win this race last year and my impression is that her runs this year have just been preparations for a repeat bid.
For those not following my Frankel thread, there are some interesting runners from the sire today - BETTY F in a Novice Stakes at Newmarket (2 year old) - first foal, dam half-sister to G1 winner Seal of Approval. Holds G2 and G1 entries at the end of the year. THE GRAND VISIR in the Melrose Handicap at York COUNT OCTAVE in the Listed March Stakes at Goodwood. Finished 2nd in the Queens Vase at Royal Ascot UAE KING in the Listed March Stakes at Goodwood - top class pedigree and stepping up in class following some solid wins FRANKUUS in the G3 Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor. Won a G3 last time out.
Chaos and chapesses ... many thanks to those kind and wise people that have offered Chester tips - much appreciated !! BUT I need more if I am to appear wise amongst my family throng - a quick shufti at the cards would suggest nothing outside the top 3 in each race ... what's the skinny ?? Come on .... in the immortal words of a failed TV Chef - where are you ???? Cheers lads
Quick view on the first 3 races at Chester Ekbalco - just fancies, no great confidence: Allnite Ballesteros Confessional Have a great day
Dont really fancy much today...itv races look tricky to me..but do fancy one in Newmarket 5.00pm Syrian Pearl 5/1 each way. Put this one up last week when he finished about a length behind with nowhere to go as wall of horses in front. Ran a decent enough race and similar race here and the quicker ground will suit. Horse is ready to win who has won off a mark of 82. Now on 79..
Unless I hear some info to the contrary here are my chester winners R1 - Will be all at sea if COASTGUARD doesn't oblige ew R2 losing my NORMAL EQUILIBRIUM R3 sticks FUMBO JUMBO R4 Surely SABLE ISLAND can land this R5 king for a day if HEIR TO A THRONE gets crowned ew R6 I'm "poping" SEE OF ROME R7 all in on ALEXANDER M fingers xd - weather is set fair - beers will be cold - what could possibly go wrong ???? Keep them coming lads - plenty in the tank !!!
Enjoy your day Ekbalco. I wouldn't be surprised to see Reflektor turn the tables on Confessional. Plum draw and 8 lb weight swing. Not sure how good the ground is there as in France currently but any ease would help. Also I'd have an ew dabble on Kenstone later on. Up in grade but bottom weight with a 7lb claimed. I see Fran y Norton is otherwise engaged so no easy get out of jail card to play with the Norton lad. Good luck or Bon chance as they say round here.
If I had ever been a school teacher, I could pull attivo up on the fact that York is listed twice at the top of the thread and it is Saturday not Friday... It is easy to bypass most of the Goodwood card today as the feature Celebration Mile ought to go to odds-on Lightning Spear – last year’s winner – and it is anybody’s guess how the five runner March Stakes will be run. However, I am now stuck with a 1980s Kids From Fame song playing in my head after looking at the 5:05 – STAR MAKER won last time at Lingfield and also three races ago. I hope he is not just a course specialist in Surrey! Sylvester Kirk has put a good claimer on him today so he actually will run off a lower mark than the other day and is overpriced because the favourite is a once-raced maiden winner. Obvious reasons to watch the opener at HQ but certainly not a betting race – come on Betty F!!! The one I am interested in at HQ is THEYDON GREY in the 3:50. He was taken out of a two mile race at York on Wednesday (was my competition pick) after the deluge and drops a couple of furlongs today but Georgia Cox has built up a good rapport with the horse and I think the four-timer is definitely on if the horse is not just a York specialist. Our old friend Lancelot De Lac runs in the 4:25 but he looks up against it trying to give weight to the likes of Gifted Master in a Listed race; and hot-and-cold Winston is not an inspiring booking.
Morning, Ekbalco; like you, I would have been disappointed at the lukewarmness/lack of originality in the replies to your request. I'm going to Goodwood, so I hadn't paid any overnight attention to Chester. But you and I go back a long way - remember the year when England F won the International Tipping Competition, and Arkle Supreme took his shillelagh home in a huff because he wasn't allowed to play for Ireland ? - so I felt morally obliged to put in at least some sort of effort. After a couple of phone calls and a few emails, the pickings are fairly slim. The actual skinny revolves around the maiden race at 3.40. According to my mole at Stoutey's, hopes for Sable Island aren't high: not quick enough to win 14f handicaps, and put back into a 12f maiden as - more or less - a last throw of the dice. On the other hand, Brian Ellison thinks that Scottsdale has got his ground and has (quote) an outstanding chance. Being backed as I post. If your principal concern is to look patriarchally wise among the multi-generational fruit of your loins, can I recommend that you use at least two of the following three phrases at appropriate points during the afternoon ? Simultaneously stroking the chin will enhance the effect. 1. Stall one can be a mixed blessing here over five if you don't get a quick break. 2. Actually, Tom Dascombe's record over the last couple of weeks isn't that great. 3. (my very favourite, and gets a meaninglessness score of +94): Some of these late-season Northern maidens can be surprisingly strong. Good luck. If you're potless by tonight, look out for GRAPEVINE in the 4.55 at Epsom on Monday. If he runs (not a given) he really should be able to win this off 85.
Count octave looks the bet of the day for me at Goodwood, against my better judgement frank spencer might have a double on the card for noseda and walker. Cheers.
Grubbed up a few acorns today... York 1:55 Mondialiste York 3:35 Battersea Chester 2:30 Ballesteros Chester 3:05 Soie D'Leau Good luck all.
