Imho a good boxer beats a good mma guy all day. Mma guy winning would be an exception rather than the rule.

The fact that you call them 'MMA guys' tells me you've not studied this very much.

If a good boxer, say Kell Brook, could beat 'MMA guys' for fun, then why isn't he just cashing cheques with Dana White instead of getting his skull caved in by GGG?

I'm a massive boxing fan but MMA isn't boxing, it's about 20% boxing skills, a top quality MMA fighter gets a boxer on the deck and beats the crap out him

Can them what you like ultimately its mixed martial arts. And I have always had an interest in fighting

The latter part of your argument is best explained by the m and m fight. cm made £3m prior to thus £100m for 1 fight

It's like saying a Formula 1 driver would out-drive a WRC driver around Jyvaskyla because they're better drivers, 99/100 times your F1 driver needs his guts scraped out of a tree.

Kell Brook isn't cashing big cheques unless he's taking beatings off GGG every time he fights, surely he goes and bangs people for fun in MMA and takes a bigger piece of pie like McGregor, who was raking money in from all angles in UFC.

    What?
    Have a word!!

I am also a big boxing fan, always have been.

Boxing is boxing, its a particular skill set.

MMA is fighting. A decent MMA fighter would have a boxer on his back in a ground and pound or a lock, within 30 seconds.

In a cage, a boxer would get mullered.
In a boxing ring, an MMA fighter would get mullered.

The boxer has one game plan, he has to land first or it's lights out, there's nothing else they can do.

Put a boxer on his back where they can't generate the power, it's nap time.

    yup <ok>
Boxers clinch when they are tired or want to halt their opponents momentum.

Try clinching with an MMA fighter in the octagon and it will go very badly <laugh>

5 years ago Mayweather wins this easy. What makes it intriguing is we don't know what Mayweather we are going to get.

A guy approaching 41 who hasn't boxed in 2 years is an unknown. I don't care what anyone says. Bolt just showed age catches up with everyone. Plus how hungry can a guy be who just wants to add another 100 million to the other 100's of millions he already has.

Last time I saw something even remotely comparable was Fury v Klitschko. I fancied Fury that night because he was just so overwhelmingly confident in the same way McGregor is, and he was fighting a guy at the very end of his career.

Not saying McGregor wins but this will be more interesting than some like to believe.

Yep. We've already seen a boxer fight in the Octagon in James Toney. It did not go well!! Maybe he was the 1/10!!

    Maybe.
Maybe I am falling in the trap in still thinking Mayweather is the best damn boxer I have ever seen in the flesh, the guy was unstoppable, a pure legend.
If he is even half as good as he was in his prime, then he has to be the favourite for me.
McGregor is an MMA fighter, not a boxer, whilst he will have the strength in his punches, he will not have the boxing skill set that Mayweather has in droves.
I really cannot see McGregor winning this unless Mayweather has really let himself go in the last 2 years.

I'd fancy Mike Tyson against an MMA fighter, not any other boxers though.

Tyson was pretty much an MMA fighter anyway. Just brutal.

On the whole I agree that boxers wouldn't stand a chance. I just like Tyson's anger. He'll **** anyone up when pumped.
