So happy for the lad - I know he's prone to the odd Yoshida, but his enthusiasm, all round likability, and knee-slide when he scores make it impossible for me to be mad at him. He's a player who's definitely developed over his time here as well, so the club should be proud of that.
Yes,not as often as we'd like but this helps to restore a little bit of good faith. Well done Saints as well. Edit. Not last night though you buggers!
In his news conference, Mauricio talked of Maya's positivity, professionalism and willingness to learn. Suspect he is just the kind of player that a manager likes in his squad.
Wow, very much unexpected (only because we'd heard nothing) but so, so merited. What a gent, what a proffessional. As above, Yoshi hasn't been a star player but whenever called upon he's been there, doing whatever has been asked, even RB against Hazard No drama though & just gets on with it all. There's a "fan" in my row who used to absolutely hate him with so much vitriolic verbal abuse it was more than embarrasing but thankful even he's been quiet the last season or two. So very proud of Maya & SFC for doing us all proud. Absolutely steller.
He has come on so much over the last 12 months. He made one 'Yoshida' last night and tracked back to sort it straight away. At one point he was going mental at the defence to try to organise them. As others have said, he seems a true gent and very humble. He works hard, tries hard...and is actually quite good once you forget about his nightmares he had getting a game every 3 or 4 weeks or when played out of position. I would play him and Hoedt until VD decides he needs to play...even then I feel uneasy about VD back in the side. Difficult as a fan not to cut off your nose to spite your face..MP2 must feel the same.
It's certainly a great feeling to have one of your favorite players sign a new contract and actually believe he will see it out!
