Jon Toral has described joining the Tigers as a key moment in his young career. The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a three-year deal with Leonid Slutsky’s side, flying the Arsenal nest after six years in north London. After previous successful loan spells in the Championship with Brentford and Birmingham City, Toral felt the time was right to make a permanent move and is looking forward to his new challenge. “This is a key moment for me and it just felt like the time was right to make that permanent move,” said the Spanish midfielder. “I’ve had a few loan moves over the last couple of years but now I want to settle somewhere and be there for the long term, and I’m really looking forward to getting started here now. “I’m sure coming here will improve me as a player, especially with the Head Coach and staff that are here, and of course I want to help this club to get back to the Premier League. “This is a massive move for me, certainly the biggest in my career so far, and one that can kick-start things for me. “I’ve enjoyed playing in the Championship before and I hope to use that experience here. It’s a tough league where everybody can beat everybody. Home games are very important in this league, especially if you want to be at the top end, and we need to make sure we are strong on our own ground.” Toral’s last season in the Championship, with Birmingham City in 2015/16, saw him impress consistently as he won Blues’ Player of the Year award, and scored their Goal of the Season. It was a season that also saw him bag a winner against the Tigers at St Andrew's, and the attacking midfielder is now keen to bring goals and creativity to Slutsky’s engine room. “I do remember that goal and I think we won 1-0 on the night, although Hull did go on to win promotion,” added Toral. “I am the type of attacking midfielder that likes to get into the box when I can to try and help the team with goals. “But mainly it’s about trying to create chances and helping the team in whichever way the manager wants me to.” Toral spent pre-season with Arsenal’s U23 side, playing a number of matches, and with that work under his belt he is raring to go in black and amber. “I feel fit so we’ll see how training goes, but like I said I’m just looking forward to getting started here and getting out on the pitch.”
I know we need a striker and indeed a few more bodies in the squad before the 31st August, but I am quite excited about this one. His goal aside, he stood out for me in that Brum game. I hope this gets done before the match deadline.
