Is Gyan definitely out for the derby then?

Discussion in 'Sunderland' started by Heavy Metal Toon, Aug 18, 2011.

  1. Just wondering. I'm not here on a wind up.

As a bit of comfort for you losing your striker, we'll most likely not have a LB for the derby :(

I think we'd have heard if he was a major doubt.

I'd be comfortable starting with Ji to be honest, looked well up to it in his fleeting show against Liverpool, who are, of course a much stronger side, away from home.

Atmosphere shouldn't faze him, the Korean fans are insane, just scream the place down for 90 mins!

I'd be worried. Dong-Won is fresh in the UK and the sheer atmosphere and noise in his first ever derby match will hit him like a sack of ****e, especially when he's barely only ever played 30 minutes in the Premier League.

It wouldn't be so bad if he was a more in-field player like a defender or midfielder, but all of the eyes will be on him to bag the all important goals and lead the attack line. It's an awful lot of pressure to put on a new 20 year old's shoulders.

im sure ji wont be starting but i dont think it would effect him that much to be honest, no more then it will effect your new players!! he clearly isnt short on confidence to go half way around the world to play in the prem at 20yr old and he doesnt even speak the language yet... the kids got the minerals

Are you sure he doesnt speak the language, maybe not proficently, but he was with Reading for 2 years, so he must have picked up a bit whilst there.

    I don't agree Chappaz.

He's played in front of crowds well over 7ok for the national side, and excelled.

He looked superb in pre-season, and then looked every inch a Premier League player in his Liverpool cameo.

I repeat, personally, i'd have no worries if he started, hopefully you're back line underestimates the lad as well ;)

This + The south Koreans know how to make plenty of noise in their national games so I dont think the lad will be out of his depth at all. I would also be happy if Wickham got a game he has done Curly Colo up like a kipper before so he knows he can get the better of him.
