Form reading is always objective but for the life of me I cannot understand how anyone could regard Eminent's form of one Group3 win and 3 unplaced efforts in Group1's to be ahead of Brametot's Group3 win and subsequent 2 Group1 victories!
No views about Eminent today but there was an interesting discussion piece in ‘The Weekender’ a few editions back in which it argued that Meade had totally messed up the training of this one in that he was overaced Eminent in his trial (won the Craven in course record time when looking trained to the minute) and has never really gone on since. It also claimed old boy Gosden had messed up with the other Frankel colt, Cracksman. In contrast not running him in the Dante (when there was in reality little problem with the ground) and therefore leaving him undercooked for 2 Derbies. Both have quality form to their names after their opening runs but could both, people, have done so, so, so much better if handled more competently??? Must confess that I looked at the Nottingham card this eve and kept exclaiming, ‘Cor bally blinkin’ blimey, oooooooooooooooooooooooooh I say, I’ll go to foot of our stairs, would you Adam and Eve it, look who’s running’! Cosmopolitan Queen (5.55) ran a race full of credit at ‘Glorious’ Gooders and really ought to be up to taking a race of this nature given her wonderful pedigree (dam a dual Group 2 winner and her sister won York’s International). The unraced Gosden filly the obvious unknown in this race. The Twisler (6.25) intrigued me on his last start when he made his bow for Neil ‘Mullers’ Mulholland but ultimately disappointed. Has though dropped like a stone in the handicap (from a peak of 106 to today’s 75) and in first time cheekpieces ought to be competitive. Bounce (6.55) is one of those animals whose homework far exceeds what they have so far shown on the track. Mr Candy has trained a host of good sprinters and he deems her lightning fast. If reproducing what she’s shown on the gallops is a leading contender. Kaaber (7.55) won this heat last term at 25/1 for Roy Brotherton. Debuts tonight or the Blake barn (of Pick A Little fame). Runs off a really low perch of 49 and with the benefit of a change of scenery and the Wiltshire wind looks most intriguing. These are just my thoughts and not sure if I’ll back any of them. The acca currently paying 2,230/1 for any regular reader feeling optimist / in need of a straightjacket (delete as appropriate). Good luck, troops.
I don't tend to place too much sway on the level of the races they're competing in, merely assess the proximity of horses they've been competing against. Capri and Waldgeist are the two I focused on for this race. Eminent finished 2 lengths ahead of Capri in the Derby, Capri beat Waldgeist in the Irish Derby by 2 lengths (on ground that was perfect for Waldgeist). Take that form literally and Eminent would beat Waldgeist 4 lengths. Brametot only beat Waldgeist a short head in the Prix Du Jockey Club. Obviously it's never that simple to just read form like that, especially when over different distances, courses and on different ground. You could probably take a line through another horse that would show it differently also. But they're clearly closely matched, so when you add in that Brametot is 4/7 as opposed to 6/1 for Eminent (corals) then i know who i'd rather take a punt on. Moore on board is a nice positive also.
Haha I already had! Don't think that disproves a great deal, puts Brametot just ahead of Eminent but over a shorter trip. At the prices I'd still rather some each way on the 6/1 shot than put down decent money on a 5/6 shot. One thing that will be key is how the race is run, which is why I'm happy to have Moore in my corner. Eminent is often keen but stays well. I'd get him out there in front and dictate, wind it up from the half mile and try and run the finish out of Brametot, who I think is probably the speedier horse
Out of my depth when discussing the racing in France today; best I avoid that, I find. I'm much more comfortable at Thirsk; lovely place, just off the A19, James Herriot ( AKA Alfie Wight ) and all that, you know, farmers, vets and tractors and such. Had a nice weekend there with the other half before the kids were born. Fond memories. Anyway... Two at that venue caught my eye and my pennies are spent on each way singles ( in no way is that a disclosure of certainty on my part ). 2.30 Excellent Times 4.30 Totally Magic Good Luck, Bonne Chance!
Interesting views on Eminent. Our TV developed a small black spot at the bottom of the screen a little while back. This morning it was no different but this afternoon it's developed what looks like a thick black vertical line from top to bottom. I thought it was a split screen until I changed channels and took a closer look, to find it is lots of very fine lines of different colours. I think it's ****ed. It's under guarantee but we bought it in England . An unnecessary trip beckons
Almost tempted to chide you for buying British, but since your TV almost certainly originates in China built to Japanese design you will probably get back to the store and they will say they cannot replace it because they no longer make that model as so many of them were faulty. No betting interest today, although will be watching how Gold Filigree goes in the first at Chelmsford as I know one of the owners (from whom no word on its chances). Over at Deauville, the bookies will be watching the Prix Gontaut-Biron to see how ring-rusty Almanzor looks as the race conditions mean that he goes unpenalised for his Group 1 wins so he really ought to win if he is the same horse as last term. In the following Prix Guillaume D’Ornano, this year’s Prix Du Jockey Club winner Brametot at least faces a couple of decent yardsticks who will hopefully give us something on which to assess whether he is a cut above or not. I suspect he is not. Clearly the folks at France Galop have started to split up their races to create more days with a pattern race. I am sure that last year the D’Ornano was on the Saturday card prior to the Prix Jacques le Marois on the Sunday.
Almanzor turned over by British raider First Sitting – in fact he may have just avoided finishing last in a photo. Surely cannot complain about the pace of the race as stablemate Zafiro cut out the running.
I'd have Last Kingdom with De Sousa up over Eminent especially giving the price difference. 12/1 Last Kingdom looks tremendous value for an ew bet
Sounds like Ryan gave Eminent a peach of a ride and the Frenchie hotpot was given a stinker! 10L last turning in!
