This is a bit confusing. The Echo reports he is a multimillionaire who heads the billion pound Lander business. I am not sure he has that money, personally.
"Worth". But if he is a real estate guy that doesn't exactly scream liquid funds to throw at football players Not that is necessarily what we want. Or is it? What are people hoping for out of this ?
Reading the comments section of the Dailyecho has made me chuckle. One particular poster said we were going nowhere under the Liebherrs. I guess that fairytale rise from League one to the San Siro wasn't enough.
Right, so, erm, did Lander buy us or not? Did we cut out the middle man or were there legal issues with Lamder that Gao was able to get around? #confused Opinions?
Lander has not bought us. The Gao family have. Whether this has exploited legal loopholes I'm not knowledgeable enough to say.
If you believe that then.... All to get around the new stringent acquisition laws in China. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Adam Blackmore @AdamBlackmore·2m #saintsfc fans should not expect a sudden splashing of cash, but club should be stronger financially and this deal keeps them moving forward
I quite like the fact it's another family who have bought us, rather than a business 'vehicle'. (Yes I know I may be being naive).
Personally I'd be hoping for more of the same in terms of approach, and the way we like to do things. I don't want us to start buying big name, big ego, deteriorating players for £65m on 200k a week, but it would be nice to be able to buy what we need without having to sell first. We tend to go into each new season still needing to strengthen the team in several positions in order to really challenge the Top 6. Early signs are that it doesn't sound like anything is really going to change, just that it won't be Kats money any more.
Katharina means well by us and obviously still feels a close connection to the club, so we have no choice but to accept that this will be a positive move. A wait and see situation. Not rolling around in joy, but neither am I overly fearful.
I know I'm not the first to say it but with this news I'd like to say a huge thank you to Markus and Kat. It's been an incredible 9 years. I know you haven't fully gone but thank you both for the huge impact you have made on the supporters, the club and Southampton in general. It's been the most amazing journey and it's hard to contemplate that all those years ago we may not have even had a club to support. I don't want to go into a huge amount of detail otherwise I will be here all day but you have been fantastic and it's been an emotional ride.
