Putting my objective head on, these Championships have been good, because now with Bolt saying his farewell, the focus is very much on the events. We are all looking at something like the long jump events, the technique of the discus, hammer and shot throwers, the way the Poles have performed in both track and field. In fact the Poles have been fantastic the whole Championship. They deserve to come second if possible as they have contributed enormously in both track and field. Their runners run with intelligence, much more so than their British counterparts to get to the finals and earn medals.

PS: Isn't Daphne Schippers just beautiful. If I was a teenage boy I would have a poster of her up in my bedroom as my favourite athlete, alongside Allyson Felix and Serena Williams. As it is I just have posters of ____________ players FLT adorning my entrance hall.

Things I have learned from this thread:

1: We're not really very good at running about, jumping or chucking stuff
2: We need to wait till the Olympics so that we can win all the sitting down sports
3: I should have mastered the Fosbury Flop instead of stubbornly sticking to the straddle
4: Ides loves a fast African
    5: nope, that's it, only 4 things.

Here's a fifth, might be a bit dull to you though,I organised my trip to visit relatives
so that we only missed one game. When they swapped home and away with WHU because of these games I was well pissed off.

As Michael Johnson said, great for the crowd who have watched the whole tournament and enjoyed it, but needed some GB success.

So the teams that normally botch things up came first and second. Christian Coleman froze on the last leg for the USA, no belief that he could take the US home to gold when he had it in the bag. So Team GB seized the opportunity. Japan third. I thought they had a good chance of doing better.

We have history for getting medals in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.....if we manage to pass the baton.

Overall it has been rather poor. Nothing to show in the field events. Would love Team GB to be competing with the Czechs, Poles, and Germans acros the full plethora of field disciplines. Maybe youngsters need more encouragement to take up athletics, we need more coaches and ultimately funding. If a nation can afford a military, it can more than afford a fraction of that money to spend on athletics at elite and grass roots level,

Events like sailing and rowing and cycling can pull in private money, athletics is treated very poorly.

Yep, as they said in the commentary, we either botch the baton pass and DQ or win a medal. Fantastic running by the team. Sad to see Mo run down in his last track race and Bolt not even finish his last race

The Ethiopian victor looks absolutely fantastic. So graceful and powerful. The sleekest of the sleek. Good to see Ethiopia winning a gold at last. Farah was conceding 11 years to him. Maybe Mo tightened and that had an effect on his performance.

Superb perfrormances by Sally Pearson after having had a couple of years out with injury. And what about the evergreen Allyson Felix. Yet another medal. Forget Federer, this lady deserves the BBC Overseas SPOTY. She is really a nice and intelligent person judging the interviews she gives.

Coleman didn't have it in the bag, GB were ahead the whole way round, especially after Adam Gemili's astonishing second leg. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake actually increased the lead over Coleman to take the gold. Brilliant stuff, and we won in the third fastest time ever, so nothing to do with the USA or Jamaica underperforming l
