https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/engvall-returns-to-djurgardens-on-loan/ Gustav Engvall has returned to Djurgardens on loan for the remainder of the Swedish season. The City striker scored seven goals in 13 games for the Blue Stripes in a three-month spell earlier this campaign. Engvall, whose loan will expire on November 30th, is still in the running to finish as the division’s top scorer. Djurgardens are third in Allsvenskan, 13 points behind runaway leaders Malmo with 12 matches to play. City head coach Lee Johnson said: “Gus just wants to play. He has a good relationship with the club and did very well there, scoring seven goals in 13 games. “He’s right up there with the top scorers in the division. He’s only just turned 21 and he’s still young, so for him at the moment it’s better to be playing regular football than to be getting ten or 15 minutes off the bench now and again. “We have to do what’s right by Bristol City, but we also have to do what’s right by the player. Given the fact we’ve brought Niclas (Eliasson) in and we have Matty Taylor and Milan Đurić on their way back in the next week or two, it’s probably the right time. “He’s definitely got qualities – he’s got top-level movement and he can finish. He can be physically strong, but the Championship is very physical and at the moment he’s probably just a bit short of that confidence or physicality. “When he goes back to Sweden he lights the place up and he walks six foot tall. There’s a big difference in the divisions tempo-wise. “Every time we get Gus back he gets a little bit better. If he was one we’d brought through our Academy, everyone would be really excited about him. “The fact that we paid money for him simply means he’s got an opportunity at Bristol City, which he will get at some point in the future.”
We must see something in him or we would just get rid and move on. He's only 21 and seems to be enjoying being a 'big fish in a little sea' so either he will be ready to play for us soon or he will be sold on at a profit. No problem with this personally......
Moving to a new country at 21 isn't for everyone. He will almost certainly play better on home soil as he feels more comfortable. If he wants to be a success, he needs to play in a top European league and that requires maturity and self confidence. Let's see what he's like when he returns in November.
Dont think he is really getting a chance but who knows will probably be decided this time next year seems risky letting him out on loan with just Famara, Bobby and freddie available i mean has he fallen behind freddie hines in the pecking order? And next season will likely be even harder to get a game here as hines mcoulsky are improving very quickly, reading the newport forum they believe they have a goalscorer on there hands
I don't think him being on loan means that he's behind Hines in the pecking order - Himes will get his game time for the youth team and only make the odd appearance as a sub or possibly in the league cup (though we'll likely get knocked out by Watford). Though I agree it's more valuable for Engvall to start games and play regularly elsewhere, it does seem a bit odd that he's gone and we're still apparently on the lookout for a striker. Hopefully Taylor and Djuric get back to fitness and add more depth soon, at which point talk of Engvall will die down. In the meantime, ain't nobody's going to move Famara out from the starting lineup, except for injury/suspension/to give him rest.
Talking about striker Paul arnold Garita? still belongs to us is he injured? not seen anything of him on loan or in under 23s?
Doesn't seem like he's going to make it for us. Injuries haven't helped, but I don't think he has enough goals in him. I'm happy for him to get another loan and prove me wrong - if Plymouth would have him back again I say great.
