It's not naive. It doesn't exist. Who thinks that? There's nothing that we can do about it without doing a Leeds, though.
The issue is whether Levy continues to pursue the business model he has adopted - which has been successful, but on the back of home produced players coming good (Kane) and some exceptionally shrewd, cheap moves in the transfer market- or splashes some cash in the hope of future success on and off the pitch including the new stadium project. As you say, Leeds is a possible outcome.
Levy won't do that. Why would he? We've got to where we are now without doing it and now we've got the stadium debt to deal with. I don't think that he could change even if he wanted to, anyway. He'll be ****ing fuming about this, though. I suspect that Walker and Rose's agent will be straight on the ****list, for starters. Pochettino's reaction will be telling. Rose is one of his favourites, by all accounts.
Danny Rose claims he knows his worth and so would make his views known about any interest in him...so presumably when he signed his latest contract he knew his worth was around £65,000 per week but now after not playing since January he knows he is "worth" more? Do these people really have no idea how awful they sound? Worth more £3.4M per year excluding bonuses, endorsements and other earnings? Rose will get over £30M in earnings by time he quits (on current and past earnings alone) and he has the audacity to talk about his worth? I couldn't give a toss about market values, the shortness of their careers or any of the other bollocks used to excuse the attitude of these prima donnas. They are defended by with arguments of "well it's not their fault they are highly paid" which is true...but it is their fault that they complain about not being paid enough when they are already richer than God. Another popular argument is that everyone would be awful to an employer in order to double their wages. Well doubling most of our wages would provide some kind of financial safety and maybe a two week holiday and a great christmas without having to save every spare penny. If they want to move don't sign a contract and put in a transfer request. Don't justify the unjustifiable with bollocks comments about knowing your worth or wanting to be a winner...be honest and say you are going to a team that already wins stuff cos it is easier than playing a role in building a winning team. I expect nothing from any footballer....kane included...but as long as there is a spurs team I will always like something about football and there is becoming precious little to like about modern day football and footballers. Rose will be gone by the end of the window in my opinion...this is going to cause uproar inside the club.
For all that Kyle Walker's done what is ostensibly the same thing, he kept his mouth shut whilst his departure was arranged. Also, we went into the Window knowing he was off (albeit we did **** all about it) and he's not inflicted the same damage through the ****ing Sun. Danny Rose hasn't been granted his wish and is throwing his toys out of the pram. ****ing tough! To my mind, it's completely unrealistic to expect us to sell both full backs at once and Rose should be told that he's going nowhere this summer. Next summer he can go. If that's not to his liking then he can sit on the sidelines until he gets over himself. He's signed a long contract and bollocksed himself given that it's a World Cup year and probably, he won't get another chance to go to one as first choice. If we cave on this point then the die is cast and we'll end up caving to any player that goes to the newspapers at any point in the Transfer Window. You just can't let that happen. Like with Modric to Chelsea, it necessitates a strong response.
Walker gone, Rose going. Who's next? I don't like to say I told you but the Spurs business model isn't viable anymore. Too much money in football and why stay at a side when you can earn more and have a better chance at trophies elsewhere? Even Kane will want out at some point. No player is 100% loyal.
Spurs business model is certainly viable financially - just not going to match the spend, spend, spend economics of the likes of the Chavs, Citeh and United. The new stadium and associated revenues will make a massive difference and if we can keep the majority of the team together into 2018/19 then all's good. Not one to criticise a player for comments yet to be confirmed, however on words that were definitely attributed to him, Rose broke professional ranks and the 'code' by stabbing Benny in the back in the Press at a time when he was only No 2 left back. That young man has history for adopting Machiavellian tactics and so is likely not the best to look to for loyalty. However, bearing in mind his alleged special relationship with Poch I cannot imagine the Coach will be happy with the comments!!
And this is why my disenchantment with this summer is so strong. When you're in a strong position like we were at the end of the season, you just don't strengthen a poorer side and weaken your own. I had this awful feeling the Walker sale would trigger off events such as Rose thinking like this. Levy will be (rightly) fuming at this because the player has broken ranks and been extremely unprofessional in giving such an interview at this stage of the season. Furthermore, Levy operates a rigid policy of what happens within the club, stays within the club. This one has been rumbling all summer through the club. There was one point towards the end of last season when Danny Rose was reprimanded for having a negative effect on the team by turning up at the training ground and whinging all the time about his injury. Every club has players who can be disruptive when things are not going their way. Believe me we have two or three who must be real pain in the arses to keep happy. Rose has naively put his head above the parapet and deserves all the criticism he will now get. At least Walker had the sense to go quietly !
So there we have it. A terrible way of going about it, but as brutal as it is for us fans though, I don't disagree with him. In terms of signings, he's only saying what we've all been saying since the end of the season. And as a player responsible for making success happen on the pitch, he's been bloody excellent for the last 2-3 years giving his all, and wants to win something. Just like us, he believes we need some additions to make it happen. He is also massively underpaid for arguably the best left back in the country. We can't disagree with that either. ****ty comments about the fans, but there's no getting away from it, he did get loads of abuse a few years back. - just a massive shame that he has shown disrespect to Poch and the team who have coached him into the player he is now. As OS has said, Walker leaving to strengthen a rival was pretty ****ty, but if a sound replacement had been announced much sooner, it would have given some sort of reassurance. WHO we sign now is going to be huge, or otherwise this could be a domino effect. No more unheard of random youngsters from France with no experience. We need a few names that show we mean business and ****ing soon.
Levy and Poch should agree with him and say that they know his worth as well. Anybody wanting to buy him must stump up £500 million
If we sell him or anyone else then we are going to have a disaster of a season. He is right...we should be strengthening but shut your mouth idiot and do your job! However he is angling for a move by causing disruption and going to the papers. A character that cant be trusted. I thought team sports were built around team ethic and having the same goals. The United propaganda machine will have something to do with this no doubt i hope there is a chairman in the world who will ruin a good footballers career by freezing him out for the remainder of his contract one day
Rose has either to come out and retract this article or he has to go. You cannot account for idiots however clever at management you are.
To those who think our strategy in wages and transfers is wrong. You are basing your argument on the comments of an idiot. Whatever Rose's problems (only 65,000 a week, poor fella, how does he manage) to go to the Sun with this is extremely stupid. Levy is an astute business man and he needs no lessons from players on how to run this business. Frankly it is child like to think that Spurs can go head to head with clubs like City and United because as Levy said recently it is unsustainable. Spurs will not change their plans or methods (why would they) they have worked very well. The new stadium will raise their business to the next level making it a little easier to compete with the top 4 financially. I have already moved on, as always my aim is to enjoy the football, life is to short to bother with idiots.
When I heard about the supposed story last night I thought it was typical Sun bollocks but seeing the photos of the interview and these being what they claim as quotes from the horses mouth, can't deny, I'm ****ing disgusted with Danny. Pure ****y to do what he's done and personally I don't see anyway back from it. We either sell him or let him rot in the reserves, I'd prefer the latter as that way he'll "know his worth" once he's played **** all and missed out on World Cup selection. Although if Levy chooses to sell, ideally it'd be to Utd in a deal where they give us dough and Shaw. Shaw enjoyed his best season under Poch and if he can knock the injuries on the head then I'm sure Poch will do wonders for him again, just like he has with every full back he's managed in England.
He never handled the fan abuse very well. He's going to get a metric **** load of it now. What on earth was he thinking?
Having slept on it, I am even more disgusted than last night. Who was Danny Rose 4/5 years ago? IIRC, some years back he was interviewed on Talksport and said when he came down south it was a real eye opener and he was looking forward to going to a zoo as he had never been. The guy has forgotten where he has come from and has been turned by jealousy/money. Like you RCL, I am close to hating football because of what it has become. I wish I could just give it up but it is part of me. The game is totally corrupt. To those that say it has always been like this, I say that the difference is that now it is out of control. Yes, Blackburn bought the title but where are they now? Now the teams that are buying titles and Pogbas and Neymars etc. are not going away tomorrow. FFP didn't work. I agree with Levy that it is unsustainable-it is a bubble that will burst one day-the same as any inflationary matter. (The media never help in these matters and always fuel the flames).I want one of these clubs who are spending to go bust. (Where are Portsmouth these days?) Unfortunately the team closest to our method are the Woolwich who have the same problem as we do. My thoughts are similar to those I have about VVD. Why do these players sign contracts in the first place for sums less than their worth and for teams that aren't going to win silverware? I will now continue my rant talking to the dog on our walk....
