this should be the main game on the football league show this weekend. such an important game being a relegation 6 pointer
yes i am sure matty h had a fit of colic again, it normally goes in april! good win today bring on the swans
A better first half display but yet again tailed away in the second. Too many silly mistakes. Apart from Sharps the defence acquitted themselves reasonably well. Elsewhere, the person who made the fewest errors was probably Wright. Gornell started off brightly but tailed away. Morgan was a nuisance and was unlucky not to score in the first half. Ainsworth again threatened but only sporadically. Wroe made some horrendous mistakes but redeemed himself with the excellently taken 2nd goal. McCallister put in a workmanlike shift and is more mobile than Richards but can be knocked off the ball too easily due to his size. Onwards and upwards. Great to see that massive club Brizzle Rovers fail to score against little Macclesfield, and Ryan Lowe score against the wobblers who already look doomed to relegation.
The classic 'town should have taken all the chances in the first half' comes to mind again. All the team played well in the first half and it provided an entertaining 45 mins. McAlister, Gornell, Grandison and Jacobson all came into the team and did well. Jacobson had some very good moments down in LB and only lost the ball a few times, yet usually managed to recover himself. Grandison did some of his usual trickery and did well in RB, although in the last five minutes he seemed to forget he was a RB as he acted more as a Right wing Forward!! Gornell played well and provided some opportunities but took a knock in the scond half, played on for a while before replacement by Collins at 80mins. McAlister took his start well, tackled, broke up play and scored. He is slightly light weight, but so have many of our past midfield. The second half was poor for town and I cannot understand how different they can be, this happened last year and might explain the grear/poor games we have. Something needs to be done to fix this, obviously a backroom thing. Ainsworth seemed to be locked out in this half after a great firsth half. He was rightly subbed by Richards towards the end of the half. Wroe had a great run down the middle at the end and had opposition players closing in on him, he looked around several times and I don't know if that was to see if he could continue or to see if he could get rid of the ball! But he ran on and held his nerve with a great goal as a reward, let's hope he takes this confident effort on to greater things for town. There was some harsh refereeing included in that game too that resulted in several cards issued for minor fouls.
We started off brightly and played some smashing stuff. I was generally impressed with the majority of the newbies(my first Meadow visit this season) and despite a few nervy moments Sharps looked more solid. Morgan and Gornell looks decent, Mc and Wroe OK in midfield(2 cracking goals) but I must admit I wasn't impressed with Grandison. Lumped it upfield a few times, a few stepovers, didn't add much going forward and didn't inspire me with confidence at the back either. NOt a moan though, however we can still do a lot better. The second half more like the first would be great- we won't get goals like Wroe's often. All in all 3 pleasing points. Roll on Robins and the Mad-as-abox-of-frogs Di Canio. Even though I can't be there
I haven't heard it directly as i can't justify the cost, but Turner claimed in his last Shrewsplayer speech that Grandison was full of promise as a CB and had an exciting future ahead of him.
