I see Carl Jenkinson came off the bench last night to make his Arsenal debut after injuries to Gibbs and Djourou. With Eboue sold and Wenger's inability to make the defensive acquisitions everyone knows he should make, it looks like he could be playing more than any of us expected...

Does anyone know if there are any add ons in the transfer fee based on appearances?

If I remember he wasn't sold it was his contract was out and they have to pay a certain amount of compensation because of his age I may be wrong though

We got £1m up front with add ons making a possible total of £1.6m ish based on appearances, internationals played, Arsenal performance etc.

Good luck to him <ok> the £1m has allowed us to build a new team :) and this was partly due to how Jenks (and his family) handled the transfer in requesting an agreed transfer fee rather than saying he would move and didn't care about Charlton forcing us to go for compensation.

I've always championed Solly's cause so as far as I'm concerned it's a win-win situation.

I am not really bothered how good he is or if we got enough for him.

Would i swap him for the 8 or so first team players we have brought with the money?

No chance, not that arsenal would want any of them any way.

Playing out of position last night, I expected Di Natale to run all over him but it never happened - decent performance, especially as his confidence must have been rocked by that classy own goal on his debut.

Good bit of business for both clubs IMO.

Long may the add ons keep rolling in.

I suspect most of us thought he would get nowhere near the 1st team (apart from the occasional League Cup runout), and would be loaned out to Portsmouth or someone similar, so congratulations to him for making the first team so soon (though that's also a reflection on Arsenal's lame squad!)

In my opinion, Solly has been our best player so far this season. He is 'growing' into an excellent defender - jockeying the line superbly, picking the right pass and attacking at precise moments. I hope he links up just as well with Green when Waggy's time is up.

Jenkinson or Solly? It is a no-brainer!

Totally agree. Solly has been criticised a lot on this forum and the old 606.
"Not enough upper body weight"
"Can't cross"
"Lacks pace"
"Too small"
"No good in the tackle"
are a few that spring to mind. But Solly, Jonjo and Mambo were the outstanding members of our outstanding youth team which was narrowly beaten in the quarter-finals of the Youth Cup. And Mambo would do a job too if given the chance!

I for one, would never comment on Chris Solly's tackle!

Probably gonna play more for Arsenal this year than he would have for us, which shows where Arsenal are at.

Anyone got Yado on twitter? Defo the wrong attitude in my opinion. Would be quite happy to see him go elsewhere until it improves!

Made jokes about the rioting and looting, asking people to get him some clothes and belts etc, constantly moaning that he's not in the team..

England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce is considering a call-up for new Arsenal signing Carl Jenkinson. The 19-year-old full-back has played for Finland at Under-19 and Under-21 level but he can still be selected by England provided he does not make a Finland senior appearance.

Just watched the Arsenal game - wonderful performance under a lot of on and off the field pressure.

Carl Jenkinson had a tremendous game and his cross-field pass, completely switching the focus of play to set up the second goal was brilliant.

As I've said before on this forum, a great piece of business for both clubs.

I loved the commentary on him, this was a favourite of mine from the eloquent ITV commentators...
‎'Jenkinson wanting the ball. A young man demanding it from Rosicky' Ummm, ok...

Heard that one as well <laugh>

Pretty sure every time Jenkinson got a touch of the ball, the commentator said "such a young man...."

As for his ability, I never rated him for us, always saw his performances as being about League Two standard at best, but today he seemed like a different player, well done to Mr Wenger for spotting that he had such ability hidden away. Hes played 2 and a half games for Arsenal now, and only played a handful for us last season, quite shocking really. Hopefully we get a nice bit of money for appearances etc.

Anyone else think he may play for the England senior team some time soon? Its not too often that English (alright I know he's Finnish) players play for one of the top 4 teams at such a young age and don't get a call-up. Incidentally Mr Capello was in the audience today.

I thought he looked pretty good for us last season, certainly comfortable on the ball, and a powerful athlete in the modern style. Defensively he still has much to learn, but I feel our views about him were clouded by the controversial departure. If it was him who signed the long contract, and Solly who demanded to leave, and then left to join, say Millwall, would we now be saying that Solly was overrated, and that Jenkinson was much better etc

I disagree, I feel a lot of people praised Jenkinson when he was appearing for us last season, simply as he was 'doing well for a youngster'. But I remember saying (and it may be on here if anybody sad/bored enough wants to search for it) that as much as I don't rate Francis, I'd still have him above Solly and Jenkinson.
