0 - 0 draw with a couple of half chances. Liverpool are camped in our half but can't break down our stubborn defence. They havn't been able to score against us all season so i don't hold out much hope for them.

 

Release clauses are rare in this country. And only a superstar would even think of having one.

Again, I cannot see Saints going for this either. VVD was happy to sign a long, lucrative contract...until he thought he could get better elsewhere and suddenly realised that the contract was onerous and unfair to a hugely talented and ambitious footballer (in his mind).

No need to make things complicated...Saints offered a good contract that both parties were happy with....until one party tried to renege unilaterally.

Now that truly is an "independant" view.

 

Independent article saying that Saints hold the cards....which is true...if you don't care about the player's value. We are reasonably financially sound....but this is a hefty sum to us. Depends how highly we value principles....and we are showing signs of being seriously pissed off. The article finishes by suggesting Virgil may play again for us....I can't see that. Unlike Morgan, he can't expect a warm welcome from the fans....unless you call a flame thrower a warm welcome.

 

A good factual article for once.

 

It's quite simple really, get rid of a player who doesn't want to be here for 60m and replace with player(s) who do want to be here and will try their hardest to perform to be able to get a move in a couple of years time.

It is the cycle we have been on for the last 5 years

 

If we hold out Virgil has 2 options. Play poorly and see his value go down and big clubs lose interest in him, or play to keep them interested in the hopes we will sell him next season.
Even if he doesn't play much, his value still won't go down too much, he's already proven. We're buying Mario for twice as much as Juve paid 2 year ago and he's only played 90 minutes 7 times in 2 years! His value may even increase at the end of this window when liverpool start desperately waving around the Courtinho money

Just think of how £30m for Mane sounds now, thats how £60M for Virgil might feel next season.

 

He obviously has experienced a blow to the head which has affected him badly to have such a change of heart........or he's just a tosser.

 

Only took him 6 months to change his stance, yet he's the one who is insulted.

 

It is, but I think it is also the cycle we were hoping to get off, with so many players now on long contracts.
