Best comparison we can all draw on at the minute

    Mahrez vs VVD

Mahrez clearly has a set of agents who are angling him to get a move but also protect his reputation with Leicester and their fans. The way it should be done.

VVD has a set of agents desperate to earn their first bit of cash on him and have a history of acting in a underhand manner (I believe he has the same agents now as koeman?)

Mahrez and VVD have both acted in a similar manner, deciding they want to leave and informing the club and their agents. Modern day footballers have no idea how these things work and once this decision is made the agents take over. The situation in my opinion then pans out depending on your agents and their morals.

Even if VVD was to interject I can imagine the agents reply would be Virgil leave this to us, it's what we are paid for and you will get your move. People forget these people are 20-30 years of age, they are relatively inexperienced and used to people doing everything for them.

Restraint of trade is related to the free market isn't it? Aren't contracts designed to put some kind of control over the free market. I can't say I have ever thought about it in detail

The prospect of changing his song again for the new manager's name would have been too much for the Northam to handle anyway

I've no problem with selling VvD to Liverpool as long as they pay top dollar as they have for our players before. Chelsea,City and some scousers saying we want too much is a joke. In a world where John stones is a 50m defender, Neymar! ? and Liverpool once paid for Andy Carroll, I have no worry on the VvD fee we set.

Quite a few Liverpool fans on social media are making the argument regarding "what example would you set to young players if you kept Van Dijk against his will. You'll never attract anymore good signings".

Imagine how awkward it would be for them if we announced tomorrow the signing of a promising young midfielder from Juventus for a club record fee......

There is absolutely no chance that the loyalty bonus is that high. That came from a poster misconstruing the loyalty bonuses as a full payout of a player's contract, which it is not. A 20-odd million bonus would equate to 75k p/w or more in just bonuses, which would mean that VVD was earning about 150k p/w all told. That's not the case.

Well Mr Van Dick you say you wanted to have a good rapour with the Saints fans but the board have ruined that by private conversations leaked to the press yes it's all the clubs fault nothing to do with you speaking to Liverpool. Best not slag off your new employers for leaking that you had agreed to join them.

Anyone over thirty will remember the most infamous of footballer v's club battles.
    Pierre Van Hooijdonk.
This guy was the devil. Hated the country over for what he did. Some called him the first mercenary, some just thought him a ****. When in actual fact, he was a ambitious guy who was really passionate about the sport he played. Yes he did go AWOL from Nottingham Forest in 1998, & he refused to the play for them. But only after promises were broken & team mates were sold around him like Kevin Campbell. He hated Dave Bassett & his non tactical (unprofessional I think he called it) approach to games, and the 'just enjoy attitude.' The board told him he could go after the promotion season, then priced him out of a move.
For me, this was a player pushed into a corner, he was forced into making a drastic decision, and after hating him for some years, I now see his side of events. (I've not done a good job on putting his side across, so look it up if you are in disagreement, its rather interesting.) But fairly recent players like Payet, Tevez, Berbatov, and maybe soon Van Dyke look so much worse in my eyes. They have everything, the clubs bend over backwards to keep them happy, and yet still they will act in a way that will alienate the fans & the club.
Just for a bigger percentage. Its so sad.

Completely see your point. For me clubs now have to keep both the player and their agents happy. And even then, like with VVD they go and change agents shortly after signing a new deal.

Power needs to be taken away from the agents for the sake of the game. They influence players too much and somehow command ridiculous fees from clubs

It may suit him to put in a transfer request now but it's too late in the window for us. Make him wait until we have his replacement playing. Don't really care what he does while he's waiting as long as he is kept away from our players and lads.
