    Wow steady on.

Did the original person deny that we sold first team players ? Because i didn't . I just said first team players from other clubs have been sold on mass but were not as good

Maybe i have mistakenly come into this too late and missed a nuanced point made somewhere. Please explain the contradiction rather than saying there is one and leaving it there. Because I legitimately have no idea what point you are trying to make with your reply to me

And if you read I said without digging deeply I came up with Villa and Sunderland. I haven't sat on Wikipedia to look. Personally I think Villa are a good example as they were established as a very good side before selling all there players (but maybe I am underestimating the period of time they did this over)

It's been hinted on TSW that VVD may play/be on the bench for the u23s on Monday.

What have the U23s done to deserve that? <laugh>

I'm still not quite sure what the gist of your point is pieguts, yes, we have sold a few players for a large profit, but we have finished virtually "the best of the rest" in the PL for the last few years, surely that has to be commended?.

If he has refused to play for the first team, why would he turn out for the u23s. Though I suppose it would mean he could get some match fitness without backing down.

Plus, we have never wanted to sell VVD, we don't need to sell him because this is the first year that we have been debt free. The only reason he will go is if he becomes no worth to us as a player ie by refusing to play.

And which youngster misses out on a starting place to make room for that sulking lump?

I do get the bit between my teeth at times, but other than Paxton on the politics thread, I do try not to make it personal.
It's hard to have a reasoned debate when half of your fans on here, admit selling talent is part of the business model (and before I get pelters again, there is nothing wrong with this approach) and half say you dont.
Bovril told me my comment was unfounded but then in the same paragraph went on to mention the 9/10 first team players who have been sold!
I'll go back to my original comment, which was you need to look closer to home with some of your frustration around transfers.

This season is different though, because we have been paying off a loan from our owner for a few years that paid for our training complex, we are now debt free, so we don't have the need to sell now.

Absolutely commendable and even if it doesn't appear that way, I do have a lot of admiration for what the Saints have achieved.

What you actually said was this:

    pieguts said:
This comment doesn't really make much sense. Worse teams than the Saints, with less income, don't lose players as frequently as you. Maybe as fans your not happy, but it appears it's part of your business model, irrespective of what comes out of the club.

Which I respectfully pointed out in my reply above, was bollocks. And remains so by the way. It will take you all of two seconds to google a full list of transfers from all PL teams. There's nothing at all out of the ordinary about how many we sell. There's something quite extraordinary about their desirability to bigger teams though.

Exactly. The guy's been injured for half a season. And the longer he stayed out of the side, the better he became in our memories.

If someone - not Liverpool - wants to pay £60 mill + for a centre back who gets caught out of position a lot, and is coming back from a long term injury, I suggest we rip their arms off. But I doubt anyone - other than Liverpool - will.

I for one remember VVD as a very, very good CB and with players like Stones and Walker going for big money £60M sounds pretty cheap to me?

He's an excellent player. Hopefully one who becomes **** when he does leave, but I can't go saying he's not a good player now. He's had one and a half fantastic seasons for us.
