Savage is a cock too. Arguable whether this as a one off decision is a shrewd one or not. I would rather look at it in the wider context of everything they've done over the last 4 years or so and conclude whether or not this is yet another spite-driven dig at minor non-compliance benefitting few, if any people - and I think it is.
Well no, you wouldn't openly criticise your own company (the one you work for). But that is very different from being a reporter or commentator. Any reporter must be able to criticise as part of the reporting role - and that holds true regardless of whether they are reporting in science, business, music or sport. The media are what they are - some are better than others but to deny them their freedom to report and criticise is like living in North Korea or perhaps like living under the former Egyptian regime which our owner conveniently escaped.
I don't mind Burnsy as a commentator although I felt he was a lot better when Swanny wasn't alongside him. Swanny annoyed me. He seemingly couldn't finish a sentence or thought. When Viking 2 started doing commentary last season I switched to tha and much preferred it. They actually commentated on what was happening. Too many times with Radio Humberside at exciting points they'd just make noises leaving the listener to wait to hear what had happened. Maybe the idea of getting rid of Humberside is that if less people are able to listen on the radio then more will buy tickets instead.
The beeb never even said anything controversial anyway. The fact they go to these lengths because of the mere suggestion that not everything is rosey at the club is again in line with the propaganda of oppresive regimes the world over. Any minor sign of disagreement and you're out.
The actual commentary is far better on Viking the times I have listened to it all about the game instead of Paul from Plymouth has sent me a message and what swanny did the night before or what bets they have had. I don't like the allams and no doubt they have dumped humberside for not commentary reasons Talksport have also won the right to EFL games on main stream radio so humberside are not the only ones to lose out
But at what price? He's shut the Upper West. We'll see how full the East Stand is once the season starts. He's moved from a Radio Station with a large number of loyal local listeners to a commercial station with less than half the audience. Yes he may get a few more listeners on DAB but I don't think they will replace the Radio Humberside listeners lost. It may not even compensate for the Viking 2 listeners that won't listen to City. You also seem to underestimate how petty and childish they are.
No one is denying Humberside or Burnsy the right to report on or criticise Hull City or the regime, they are free to do so (and probably will off the back of this). What the club has done is give the commentary rights to another company, one they feel is more in line with their philosophy and principles. If a company contracted another company to do some work for them and in the process of doing that work they publicly criticised them, do you not think when it was time renew the contract they would look elsewhere?
Once again on the eve of a new season, we get the hand grenade thrown into the mix by idiot jnr, attention diverted from the fact that the teams in a mess the clubs in a mess, and these two pratt's are not going anywhere soon, while i agree that RH are not the best they probably better than whats coming,my question to RH would be, if you are a community radio station, why have you not been banned from the club long ago, as a community radio station you should have been in the vanguard of the fight to save the clubs identity and name , instead from what i've seen there's been a lot of fence sitting, so all i can say now is Mr Burns and RH, welcome to the world of fans evicted from long held seats in the east and upper west stand, concessions withdrawn, club been run on a shoestring and i've not even touched on the playing side and contracts plus office staff/back room staff, so come on Burnsy get stuck into the bastards now make up for lost time, your miles better than dealing with uneven pavement down Spring Bank.
Its not censoring the media, they are free to write and publish what they want about the club and the Allams. All they have done is give a contract to another company because they were not happy with the work they were doing. Obviously they are doing it because they don't like to be criticised and its a bit petty but its completely understandable and something that happens in other companies all the time.
It depends on what they get out of it. If it makes them more money then they may well ignore the criticism. Some companies may decide the criticism is justified and change their approach. Its not always black or white.
True, but in this case they make a more profitable deal with a new company and remove unwanted criticism in the process, no brainier really.
cannot get umberside or five live now.or sport radio doubt if i will get viking. and radio on tinternet do city live ?
What makes you think it's a more profitable deal? I've not seen anyone say that this was anything to do with money, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they're now getting less with the new deal.
Is it more profitable after you take everything into account? Radio Humberside has more than twice the number of listeners. I would say a large percentage of them will still be listening to Humberside this season rather than Viking. I bet Adam Pearson can't believe his luck.
A genuine question to an expert Lincoln - can Viking legally broadcast their commentary on DAB across the whole country, or are they regionally restricted as RH were? I wonder if they are stumbling into a legal minefield here, or at the least have issued a cheque they cannot cash.
