Needed loads of luck to get involved but was never a factor after 2 furlongs, his race was done. Note to self. Stick to the script from now on!

Shingari 25/1 in the big hurdle race for me. Nice price given the big players involved and the "gamble" going on. A bit each way on Denis Hogan's charge will do for me in a race where absolutely anything could end up winning.

Nice swing in the weights that one has from the last day with the GOATs charge too STH. Absolute minefield race, sort of race I wonder why I even bother having a flutter on <doh>

What a good ride by young Aubrey McMahon. Just cajoling him along and won snug enough.

Ed McMahon horse wins at Galway, wonder did he recoup all his previous lost gambles there. One two for the GOAT. Nice pipe opener for Automated for the Hurdle then....

Well at least that fiddling fooker Martin didn't win. Automated never in it.

When has Tony last landed a gamble? It's the bookies at it, under pricing every horse he has knowing the mug punters will latch on to it. Imagine the amount of lads in pubs around the country rushing to back that when they see it contracting. They're laughing all the way the bank.

Automated being looked after for Thursday with the heavy rain on the way, Gordon putting the good folks who have faith in him away.

There's nothing about Tony Martin's next runner and that was the one I felt would go closest for him this week in the 8:10.

Probably right on both counts. Kevin Blake's 2018 article on Galway gambles that went astray has another entrant from the Martin/Breslin axis to go along with Quick Jack and Heartbreak City.

Was Automated ever given a chance to be put in that race? Our forecast is really bad Wednesday so I expect the ground will be pretty heavy and Automated has his best form on Heavy ground. I could be wrong but he ran no sort of race in that tonight.

Veneer of Charm looks a decent bet at 8s in the next at Galway top jockey up and should go close. Win only as the price a little too short for ew

I thought the Mullins bumper runner was being well touted prior to this meeting. 11/2 available now I see. By Yeats who is doing well this year too, worth a bet definitely.

Yes! I was surprised by the price because Patrick said yesterday he thought this horse would give him a win on the first day, although that can often be taken with a pinch of sea salt. 6/1 for Willie in a bumper, you couldn't get enough on at the price imo. Apparently the whole of Galway was on the Elliot one, didn't run well but one to note on a different track next day out.

Good end to day 1 thankfully.
