    Seen this before, I dunno the exact answer like, but it's just the way that it's worded and multiplied there that makes it seem all cock eyed. Multiplying error!

    Makes my head hurt though ha

    There is no missing dollar. The $49s are what you owe, the $1 is what you have. Therefore your debt is $49 + $49 - $1, which equals the price of the shirt.

    The question is just a mess. Irrespective of the fact you have $1 for yourself, you are still going to pay them back what you owe them. The formula used at the end is not related to the question. The $1 you kept is independent from the rest as unless you split it into 50 cents each it is now no longer a part of it. You already gave them each $1 and then give them the rest thus giving them the whole total back. If you get what I mean (not well explained lol)

    As previously said its the way they have worded it... $49 + $49 + $2 you have already paid back is the $100 you borrowed you dont get an extra $1 because the dollar you had left will go towards what you owe (mam $49) (dad $48 + $1 you had left over) <ok>
