Have any of you been watching this ****?
Anyhow, GERMANY at 2/1 to win the tournament is surely one of those rare gifts!

I also agree it is ****e - the standard is pub league at best, yet look at all the coverage it gets just because it is women. Same with the women's cricket <doh>

Mind you, there are so many media channels these days, they have to fill their coverage with something. Never mind, the Vanarama league will be starting again soon and Sky will be treating us to live coverage of Ebbsfleet United v. Solihull Moors.

Notice some of it is being shown on the More4 Channel. More4? Although they have been showing the Danish `Dicte - Crime Reporter' series on Fridays, which ain't bad at all.

The FA have squandered 17m quid to develop women's football to this dire level - appallingly bad I'm afraid

Channel 4 were supposed to be showing the Women’s Euro 2017 quarter-final between Germany and Denmark last evening but it was bucketing down with rain (and had been for several hours) so the pitch looked totally unplayable in Rotterdam.

There were half a dozen people trying to push the water off the pitch and a line of people with buckets trying to bail out the pitch-side dugouts. There must be some YouTube footage of one of the groundstaff trying to kick a football and falling flat on their back in a pool of water.

Had it been a Premier League fixture, the referee would have postponed the game long before the crowd arrived in the stadium. Instead the UEFA officials conducted a series of farcical inspections and delayed making the inevitable decision for over an hour. They are playing the game now (K.O. 11am UK, 12pm CET) and the Germans have taken the lead in the third minute.

Obviously compared to the men’s professional game, the women’s game looks very amateur.

However, I will point out that at least half the population of the country is female and if they want to play football they are not going to develop the game for free. As the game grows in popularity, it will become more commercially viable.

The recent women’s cricket World Cup – won by England at Lord’s – proved to be quite an interesting spectacle. Admittedly two thirds of the bowlers seemed to be spinners and the seamers were not very quick so clearly the game needs to continue developing but the sold out Final crowd was fifty per cent women and apparently the crowd was thirty per cent under-16s, so that will hopefully inspire youngsters to become actively involved in the game.

Thanks for thanks for pointing out the population stat - I'll take that nugget to the grave - unfortunately doesn't change my opinion that women and football just don't work for me . Best of luck in your attempt to promote female football .

Less coverage would make some people happy (eg topless)

The standard of women's cricket and football is ****e if you compare it to elite men's football and cricket. Both codes are improving though and I think it's great that girls have a far better choice of sports they can take up. I don't agree that it's pub standard. I remember years ago thinking I was a half decent footballer. The team I played for at the time got to a final and somebody videoed it. Watching back was horrific, it was like watching that bank advert for walking football <laugh>.

There is to much coverage of football in general. They may aswell change the name of Sky Sports News to Sky football news as that's all they ever talk about.

Even when the open was on, the main headlines where all about some crappy pre season games in America, and what was going on at the Golf was right down the pecking order.

I have to admit as far as woman's football is concerned, I've never actually watched a full game.

The only football I'm really interested in watching is top level football, I have no interest in lower league football either.

Bravo Ron. Watched plenty of 'top level' bore fest premiership games. The special one appears very adept at them.

We almost gave Spurs the shock of their lives, 3-2 up with 3 mins to go and lost with the final touch of the game

On a more forward note, my mole (me) tells me that France have the Indian sign over England and are all but certain to progress against them barring a Derek Acorah haunting.
