Only Chelsea wanted to do their usual and try and get the price down towards the end of the window, same as they tried with Stones 2 year ago, which saw him hand in a transfer request on deadline day. There's no love lost between Everton and Chelsea since that btw. United then showed their interest and the fact he then spent a couple of weeks on the piss with Pogba appears to have helped make his mind up, and the deal for Rooney then helped cement the deal from our perspective.

Why, if Conte AND Emenalo both wanted Lukaku, was no bid made for him, until he had all but already signed for Man united? Why did Conte sign the new contract with Chelsea the instant Lukaku signed for United, after weeks of stalling on it?
Why did Chelsea bid for Lukaku at the last minute if they knew their manager didn't want him and would resign if the offer was accepted? Why would they deliberately bid for a player knowing that they would be snubbed? Very odd behaviour if it's true Conte didn't want him and they knew he was definitely going to United. Your entire argument seems to be based on the fact that Conte wasn't spotted chatting to Lukaku.
