I'm not so pessimistic. No more signings... a similar team to last year, I suspect we'll have a similar season. Good patches, bad patches and finish somewhere between 3rd and 6th (depending on how other teams do).

If it's true we are bidding that amount and there still declining then we have too move on. 70 million pounds/euros would get a lot of good players.

£70m was the price quoted at the start, if they still reject that then whats the point in bidding anymore. Should have already moved on imo, but yes if this is rejected then time to forget it and find someone else (then go back in cheaper next summer)

Like I said earlier. Players like Veratti start coming into the equation then.

Tottenham’s £19.5m move for Suso rejected
Tottenham have had a formal £19.5m move for former Liverpool player Suso rejected by AC Milan, according to Calciomercarto.

Suso made a huge impression at the San Siro last season but has yet to be offered a new contract by Milan manager Vincenzo Montella and is believed to be considering his options.

Having made little impression in his time on Merseyside with Liverpool, Suso has already stated he is no immediate rush to leave the San Siro.

Yet Milan, who have spent over €200m this summer following Chinese investment, are believed to be willing to let the Spaniard depart if they receive an offer in the region of £25m.

If you get players on bargains or haven't been discovered by other big clubs yet. Yes.

The sad reality is, 2 years ago £70mill would get you 2 top tier players. 8 years ago it would buy half a top tier team. 25 years ago it would buy you an entire squad.

This summer £40mill is about the cheapest a good player runs. Anything less is a bargain, usually related to some special circumstances.

Its not even that long ago!!!

25 years ago the british transfer record was gascoigne going out for 5mil. 70 mil would have bought you an awful lot of players.

8 years ago... not sure.. 2009? half a team? maybe not but 100mil would have gotten close.

its just gone absolutely crazy now. It has to be a bubble.

70 million on one player would get you great to world class. Is Keita either of those brackets? I don't know i haven't seen a lot of him. I feel he's a better version of Wijnaldum but i wouldn't say it would be that big of an improvement on him.

Now, £70 million would get you Veratti, Modric (although quite old), Kante and others.

I agree with most here, we should be looking at other targets, there's quality out there for the money we're throwing around.

We play with 1 DM/holding and 2 box to box. We have Can and Hendo as the DM Lallana and Wijnaldum going box to box. Keita is coming in to challenge Wjinaldum and Lallana. I agree we need to strengthen that position but it looks like he won't leave in this window at least.

We can't wait until next Summer for him so move on.

We cannot depend on one player no matter how good he is, if he is injured for a long time we are ****ed.

It'll be like in World War 2 where the Germans made so much money it became useless.

Could Everton or Liverpool be set to swoop in and steal top prospect Joshua Zirkzee from Arsenal’s and Manchester United’s clutches?
You know Everton are in the ascendancy, when they’re getting linked to the same players as the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool. Just like the good old days hey?

Well, it’s happened again, at least according to a report from Sport Witness. Although we’ll admit you might have to take a bit of a leap of faith with this one.

Stewart going to Hull for £7.5M, we're getting the full back for peanuts, good deal.
