Am a huge Katee Sackhoff fan, loved her in The Bionic Woman reboot. Never watched the BSG reboot though. Not because of the gender swap, just never got into it. Starbuck is not exactly a cultural US icon in the way that the Doctor is in the UK though. Starbuck isn't even the main character of the show, or atleast wasn't in the original.
Pfffft.. Are you serious? The Starbuck/Apollo camps invented the **** that beliebers and whatever the floppy haired British ****s name was. They were the show! When BSG2 came out there was the same outrage spewed from original fans ...its still on the tinternet go look! Even I pre watching went....ooof that's a dangerous move. Except...... the style, writing, character background etc etc was all completely different and actually better. And that's my point. There have been 12 doctors... I loved 5 of them , hated 3 of them....not one because it was a man. Sometimes it was the actor.. Most times it was the writing.. .**** I liked the actor that's just gone but Christ that's one of the worst Dr's there's ever been. So....my points are. Being male or female isn't an instant **** doctor because there's been at least 3 of them already. The dude that made the last guy (good actor)**** is gone. Starbuck proves that with good direction and good writing with a good actor you can switch gender for the better. Oh... And Ripley was written as a man..they changed very little except the newt relationship...which I would propose was for the better?
Cool story bro! BSG was a series remake, not a continuation for a start, so it is completely different. I still don't agree with it, because I am against gender swapping characters arbitrarily to pander to ****ing morons. It was not mentioned in 50 years of Doctor Who that Time Lords could swap gender. Then all of a sudden its happening every 5 minutes. Retconning the entire lore of the show just so that a bunch of SJW ******s can punch the air and say "about time!" is not acceptable in my view. It does not matter anyway, some people will like it, some wont. I have no ill will against this woman, I wish her the best and hold her responsible for nothing. But I will not watch another episode of Doctor Who....a show I have been watching since I was 7 years old. A sad, sad day for me.
Better story bro lol. It wasn't mentioned in 50 years...? Aye wonder why that was. Whatever justification you're making to differentiate between the two...word for word the reasons against were the same. Get over it lol. Or as you say don't watch. Last point. The argument "why don't they just make good female characters in new shows" You know the answer to that mate...dont pretend you don't. Although the hope is they start to. I'm just glad I didn't go with that approach with BSG...as I say, I thought about it. Glad I went the other way.
I actually fear you are right though mate ..the beeb has done it for the wrong reasons.. Will push those reasons and turn off even more fans....but hey the beeb has been doing that for a while...merlin...robinhood etc etc
While we are ranting about all this. Cultural appropriation. Tom Cruise...slammed for The Last Samurai...acting as a white American. Matt Damon....slammed for being in The Great Wall....as a white Scandinavian in China in a fantasy film. Idris Iba and Tessa Thompson star in Thor? Fan protests called racist; despite both characters being based on Norse legend and Germanic real life personas. Like Dr Who...i don't care about any of them being the characters....its either good bad of mediocre....as a product. But....why is one appropriation and one not?
They change it again? I remember Disney getting bitched at when they said lack of talent....daft thing to say....especially with Walts rep lol
Because it wasn't possible in the lore set up in the show. Why the **** would it be? He is an alien, who, when he is near death, his DNA repairs itself to keep him alive, but as a side effect his appearance and certain aspects of his demeanor are altered. Same reason why it was never written in any James Bond movie that one of his gadgets can be activated to make his dick fall off and him grow tits, because it would be ****ing stupid. And no, I have no ****ing idea what you are talking about vis a vis why they dont make new kick arse female characters in TV shows. There have been plenty, and if they want more, then make them, write them, that is their job as TV writers. Again BSG is not really a comparable situation, it was a remake of a show with new characters, new writers and a completely new cast, not a continuation of an existing show that began airing 54 years ago.
And talking of **** comparisons....bond....novels...made into movies. DR Who ...made for tv screenplays
Yes. Because they wanted to continue the show and felt Hartnell was too old. It's completely irrelevant to this conversation though.
Mate with the exception of Casino Royale, none of the Bond Movies of the last 20 years have been adapted from a novel.
Like you know the reasons and methods of regeneration took over a decade to be solidified after being pure expediency don't you?
That's my point against your statement ..also obviously according to you they should have stopped since it wasn't canon yes?
