I'm sure they did. But possibly discarded the strategy once the season started. Maybe a case of trying to fit a player into a style-like Carroll?
Late to the party but Benteke is a massive come down from Lukaku no offence. He's far better in the air but he's so immobile relative to Lukaku. Also not to forget bentekes shooting is pony compared to Lukakus. However, he might fit in your team as Baines and Coleman (when hes back) are pretty good crosses as i never thought lulu was that fantastic in the air. As for Barkley vs Siggy, no contest. Siggy wins hands down. Barkley pony. You're better off ditching him. Even if he achieves his "potential" this year, he hasn't signed a contract so why would you develop him just for him to fek off. He is not the future if he doesn't sign a new contract. Whether you need Siggy though is a different matter, you've signed Klaasen and Rooney who will no doubt want to play number 10, so between Klaasen, Rooney, Schneiderlin, Davies and Gueye i think you guys are stocked here. As you say (although i think siggy is the best out of them here) you have Baines he can take a mean set piece so theres no point in buying another player to do this job
Baines hasn't scored a free kick for about 3 years. Benteke has never got over that serious injury, he's also brainless it appears as his positional sense is gash, all he's got is cracking heading ability. I hope we don't touch him with a ****ty stick I don't agree with your comments about Barkley being 'pony', he's a very good player, who still has some flaws in his game. It looks like he's going though, shame, as I think he's making a huge mistake. His choice.
I must admit its kinda funny that all rival fans last year were mouthing off about how **** Lukaku was #doingalukaku not scoring important goals etc.. Fast foward a year now he's world class and irriplaceable etc etc and we are goosed without him Doesnt anybody think that the rest of the team created most of his chances and hey theres a chance somebody will be standing in the right place to take those chances this year??
fair enough but he hasn't played in half of those matches with his ankle injury. Plus i don't think he even takes that many frees anymore with lukaku, barkley and mirallas hogging them. I see your point though i shouldn't be regarding him as a direct free kick taker anymore
Sigurdsson. 9 goals and 13 assists. Sounds great. 2 of his goals were Pennos and only 5 assists were from open play. £50m sounds like an awful lot for that!
not debating whether he is worth 50m. Obviously thats a lot of money and i personally wouldn't buy him for that much. That's still more than 5 goals 11 assists barkley which is what the debate was about.
lol i didn't want to but lucky i can slack off at work. That's a lie right there. Either you don't watch your team enough or you deliberately mislead us He was taking plenty of set pieces. http://www.espn.co.uk/football/report?gameId=451004 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38217805 He scored 1 and assisted 2 from set pieces
Really. That's two games. What are the stats for the other 30 odd games. I'm sure you have a comparison dossier on him
He took plenty of set pieces. Thats 2 games that i pointed out where he got a goal and assist from. Theres another game he got another assist from and i'm sure he took set pieces in many other games . You told me he didn't take set pieces, i only needed to look up a few games and show that wasn't true . Maybe @Tobes who i think goes to matches regularly can tell me if Barkley is a regular set piece taker
I remember him scoring on the opening day of the season with a free kick from about 25/30 yards that was a cross I think but it crept past Lloris. My lad claimed the assist as he was giving Lloris ****ing pelters before he took it and we sit right behind the goal. That aside, his set pieces are largely meh.
