Going Ascot Saturday for a stag do... in King Edward enclosure; website states ties and jackets required, but I've been telling everyone smart shirts, trousers and shoes will do. Been Ascot 3 times but for some reason I can't put my mind at rest RE: dress code.

Am I right in thinking they post that ties are required to warn people off coming too casually? Thanks

T shirt, shorts and flip flops should be OK <laugh>

I wouldn't go without a tie just in case. If it's hot, I'm sure you won't be the only one to loosen/remove it

In the King Edward enclosure you need to be suited and booted during the flat season.

Jump season is more relaxed, shirt, smart jeans and shoes, no tie/jacket required.

Stag do?!?...No tie?!?...Ascot?!?...In front of the minor Royals?!?...In front of Her Majesty?!?!?!? Golly gosh I bet there are some on here frothing at the mouth re this thread. I bet both the ‘Camp Commander’ (always makes me roar with laughter that this is actually someone’s real job title – and I bet he’s really ‘camp’ to boot) and dear old Ron have been inundated with messages of complaint. Whilst I’ll guarantee Swan Hills and Heisenburg have been exchanging PM’s full of ‘outrage’ since it was first put up!

In all seriousness I always think ’dress codes’ are installed by venues or organisations with no class trying to create it via artificial and imposed means. Real class comes naturally and can’t be created. Personally, I’d be far more offended at the sight of one of those vile, scrounging Saxe-Coburg’s (now that line will get complaints – apologies to Ron and the (very) ‘Camp Commander’) than some chap in vest and shorts or a filly in a £5 'chavvy' frock from Primark.

I went to Royal Ascot last month and some of the outfits, I’ve no doubt, cost thousands yet it didn’t stop a huge number looking either (i) ridiculous or (ii) like a dog’s dinner. So the policy is almost counter-productive as cost (or how you are attired) does not equal, or mean, you look fantastic. Meanwhile, as for what the British Queen wore on the opening day of the meet. OMG, as a chav might utter. If your Nan wore that lime green number down the local High Street you would have her sectioned (or sectioned again, but we won’t dwell on that point) with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, re the stag do. Is it being held at Ascot on Saturday because of who sponsors the 2.40 heat on the card?!? I’m sure everyone of the Not 606 will unite and say, ‘cor bally blinkin’ blimey’ and even add a ‘by ‘eck, I say, by ‘eck!’

Breaking my resolution not to respond any more to your wind-ups, but this is a ridiculous statement, even if it's your idea of 'jest'. Heisenburg and I have never exchanged PM's since not606 started, or before, for that matter. Please stop your foolish 'guarantees', even if you might think it droll. It is not.

Talal El, after considering the prevailing weather, just wear something comfortable and sensible, that's all. I'm sure you're not the slightest bit interested in being the most elegant male on view? Backing winners is what you're trying to do, and the bookies or the tote don't give a hoot on your attire. :emoticon-0100-smile

Swan Hills, Heisenburg and Ron. I must say I’m most impressed. Wonderfully deflective tactics employed there to divert the conversation away from, and criticism of, your pin-ups the Saxe-Coburgs. First class. Although in fairness to the first named he has, most adroitly, tackled the actually subject of the thread – the dress code.

Heisenburg, we’ve been here before haven’t we. You obviously don’t agree with much of what I say and I’m not going to even attempt to change your point of view (actually I think disagreement on here makes for a far, far better forum as it leads, often, to interesting debate. Much better than those tedious ‘in the next I fancy…’ and ‘aren’t I brilliant I’ve just picked a 5/4 winner’ posts that seemingly dominate the daily thread most days). But here’s a ‘life lesson’ for you. When someone disagrees with you don’t (i) bombard them with swears words, (ii) threaten them with violence, or as you have done above, (iii) chuck loads of abuse at them. Simply take a deep breath, count to 10 and say, ‘I disagree because…’. You follow?!? Good lad.

I must say though that I’m chuffed that you’ve been following the progress of the ‘coalface firewall’. I didn’t realise that you were one of my regular readers. Will add you to the long list, Dan. Think you’ve gone a bit early re the firewall though as we are talking about the Civil Service here in ‘Broken’ Britain who work slower than slow - in fact at a snail’s pace. I can though, right now, feel the heat of the flames on my old tootsies…

Once again we see a striking example of diversity in thought , belief and sensibility on the forum
    - let's not dally on it but let's rejoice the richness and counterpoint it brings whilst we all try and find a winner ! As a 'plastic scouser (Wirral born) I do feel moved to utter that long lived and used vernacular "calm down calm down" - chiiiiiiiiilll lads

I certainly don't, but it is not right that he writes what he ****ing well likes without, occasionally, some sort of response. However, if you moderators are happy with it, then sod it, to hell with it.

Didn't let it spoil my good lady's birthday yesterday. Drove down to Kochel, south of here, 70.6 km one way, in a big BMW on loan to my daughter while an engine fault was corrected in her own smaller car. Think she is a Formula 1 aspirant? Visited the Franz Marc museum (15-minute steep climb up to the bloody place from the car park) for just over a couple of hours. Left home just before midday, back before 4 o'clock. Bloody hell.

What are you on about Barney?

How a simple thread like dress code at Ascot gets to this stage I don't know.

    So no tie/tie then? <laugh>

Anyone been in K.E enclosure? What's the general consensus of code in there?

This seems to be acceptable attire for men in the King Edward VI enclosure at a normal Ascot meeting. Can find very little about men's 'what-to-wear', seems to be all about the the ladies:
