Wasn't being particularly optimistic...just replying to your opinion that there were a lot of players better than VVD. I have no problem with that opinion and I wish it was shared by more people.

 

I think you'll find it is.

Yes VVD is excellent but a lot of it is just potential. When he's performing in Europe (like the vast majority of those I posted) then he moves up into that bracket.

For now he's a player that excelled in the SPL, had a fairly good first season with you (not excellent), then had an excellent 5 months before being injured. But he's the best? Yeaah okaay mate

 

I have put him on the ignore list along while ago! Seems to me he hasn't changed much.

Genuine question....we keep hearing that we have set such and such a price. Is that actually true or is it supposition in the media? Or is it that they have mistaken 'don't want to sell' for 'just want more money.' Have Saints quoted a figure irrefutably in the press.

 

Not arguing...just pointing out that I have never said it. Have to say though that I would want to see him fit and playing another season before I'd pop a fortune on him.

 

Well yes me too, But next Summer it won't just be the premier league teams after him. Juve, Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern. Surely we will get more money then, and he will have far more success there than Liverpool.

He was phenomenal. When Toby A came to us, I said he was the best CB I'd see for many years at our place. VVD surpassed him in that first season.

You can ignore someone who watched VVD every game, up to you, but he's one of the very best CBs I've seen. Of course I'm sure your view is nothing to do with it looking like Liverpool won't get him this season, eh?

 

Remember how "horrified" many of us were at the prospect of selling Jay when he was coming back from injury? ........................ Just sayin'

 

The thing about Alderweireld is that he was all you'd expect in an excellent CB, and that's it. That's fine, but VVD is so much more of a player than TA. And being a better all-round player, it also helps him be a superior CB too. Usually, if a CB makes a mistake that becomes a scoring chance or goal. VVD has so much power, pace and technique that he can actually make an error and entirely rescue a situation as if nothing has happened.

Last season in one instance, VVD gave Sadio Mane something like 4-5 yards in a straight race to goal. Mane didn't even get to have a shot. And Virgil had to turn and catch him. And Saints fan know well how fast and tricky Mane is, and we missed him like mad this season. One day VVD may become the most expensive defender ever. He might even become the most expensive player, for a short while. In the inflated market, he's well worth it, if anyone is.
