Had my first bet of the coming season with a Scouser at work - I layed him a tenner at 5/1 against Saints getting relegated. He seemed convinced that selling JRod to West Brom was going to cost us our place in the PL

Yep. Quite a funny guy, keeps banging on endlessly about Liverpool's glorious history of European domination. I think the last time he went to a game, Graeme Souness was on the pitch.

And he's convinced they're getting VvD, who he calls "this Dutch guy" because he can't remember his name. Took £20 off him last season (he thought they'd get top 3).

I agree with some of his feeling, but I don't quite know where he gets the idea whether Saints would have been prepared to sell if Liverpool had behaved themselves. An intention to say no to every offer [which was and is Saints clear intention with every key player] is still a no even if one asks politely and goes through all the proper channels. I suspect that at the end of next season, if Liverpool or any other team need a great CB and wish to wave £75-80M [maybe more, you never know he might be even better] in front of Saints noses we may have someone in the pipeline who can take over properly and tell VVD that his time is up.

 

Apart from a legal contract which he willingly signed.

 

I still think he will leave thIs summer. Feels a lot like the Fonte situation of last summer. He's not been shown much in the pre season pictures, no video from the team captain etc etc. And starting to like bullshit tweets.

Modern footballers are like women in that once they have decided to leave you it is almost impossible to stop them.

 

Not sure about yourself, but personally I don't get the women in my life to sign legally binding contracts stating they cannot leave me in the next 5 years without my permission.

The subtlety of my comments are wasted on this site. They are pearls before swine.

Once a woman has decided to go you can beg, plead, get down on your knees, shower her with gifts, promise you'll change your ways, etc. etc. but once she has fallen out of love with you it is impossible to reignite the flame.

It is best to simply say "OK. Let me help you to pack and by the way here is your bus fare I have had it ready for weeks".
