Everton and cheap would be the first time if that's the case. If Bain can manage that I will start to warm to him. Most likely it will be an undisclosed fee, to save face.
£4.5m fee agreed BREAKING: Sunderland have agreed a £4.5million fee for Everton's Aiden McGeady, medical and terms to follow #safc #efc
Even in today's market, that seems a lot? 31 year old with 1 year left on contract who has absolutely no chance of ever getting a game in the Prem? Mugged off again imo.
£4.5m when Preston were quoted £2m. Mugged off. Bit of revenge for getting then from 8 to 30 for Pickford?
We don't know the full details though. Seems a bit early to be criticising the negotiations team without knowing the full facts.
That will be full deal I guess, including promotion clauses and **** I would presume, having said that 25.5m plus mcgeady for Pickford doesn't sound too bad does it
I call bullshit. There's a 2m deal in place for PNE if he chooses them. Don't believe for a second we'd pay over 75% more. We're stupid if we do. Surely the fee will be lower.
When we got Murphy last season I prayed we were never desperate enough to play him. He actually did a good job for us when called on and never let us down. First and foremost you need bodies in who can "do a job". You'll probably do ok next season but if you don't get a handful more half-decent people in then you're in the ****ter as a couple of injuries to your current squad and you'd be looking down not up the league. According to Wiki (so iffy accuracy but not total nonsense) you have 19 first team players currently. That includes 4 I suspect are leaving you before next season (Oviedo, Kone, Khazri and Lens) so 15ish. Watmore is injured for quite a while i think? We're talking about 12-13 outfield players here (and that includes many of the young prospects Asoro, Love, Gooch, McNair), did Honeyman sign again? Thought he looked good.
Easy to say when you're paying 5m for a back up striker. Different world when every penny counts. We need more than a player who can do a job, we need value first and foremost. With it that makes negotiations much much harder which is why I'm skeptical we've agreed to an overvalue so quickly You missed Vito, Papy and quite probibly Catts. Nobody has actually pledged to stay on apart from Oviedo and even then it was via a second hand translated Columbian tweet.
That's fair enough but I'd be amazed if you didn't make good use of the loan market, you may only end up needing to buy 4-5 players but with a couple of extra youth players and some loans effectively get by. It depends how many leave of course. I'm not convinced Catts, Papy and Vito will get better offers though I would have a fit Cattermole in our midfield as I think he's midtable premiership quality. Injury concerns recently will have him staying though I think. Didn't realise Oviedo was rumoured to stay, I just didn't see him as hanging around. I'd be surprised if Lens is still a Sunderland player by this time next week.
There's only rodwell who couldn't find a better wage imo. The relegation clause will have put most of them on wages they'll improve on elsewhere. Why do you think Larrson isn't fussed about sticking around. He'll get better than we're offering, as will the others imo. We'll have to abuse the loan market this summer imo. We'll have to.
If they are all tied into relegation clauses then fair play, smart business. With great shame (as I can't say I particularly like either of these players) I would take Cattermole and Kone in a heartbeat as they're two positions we really need cover in and they are both capable Premiership standard players. Just a shame Cattermole has been injured and Kone is a massive ****. Players like N'Dong and Watmore could make hay this season and if Gooch, Love, McNair, etc can raise their game then there's a core of prospects who could be transformed by the prolonged exposure to first team. There's ability there and the shame of the Premier league is that most youngsters don't get the chance.
