Afraid I agree with William III, signing Long was strange and he has never fitted in for us. Hard to say how Rodriguez will do, that is a good deal for us though. I didn't expect us to be able to sell him. Also the reason his family are awful is they are jealous of Jay's career and try to vicariously live his life through Twitter. It's not really Jay's fault.
Well,I'm going to buck the trend here, sorry. Long is a fantastic player to have in your side. Every time he played for the opposition he caused us problems....id walk away saying 'that bloody Long was a thorn in our side all game' He has that effect on the opposition. They hate playing against him. He was not utilised properly under Puel at all. I hope the new gaffer brings out the best of him again. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Long is average, it's simple as that. He runs about a lot and tries to hassle the defence. But he is pretty poor in front of goal.
Agreed.... under the FLDGC he had a good season and was considerably above average at times.... last season under Puel, the little he played.... he was less than average.... but that goal at anfield... love that...!
Yeah. He's okay in the right setup: one that gets him a large number of chances from within the width of the goal, 18 yards and in, under minimal pressure. Now, the same can be said of most strikers, though he's somewhat better at getting into those positions than most.
He is what he is at the end day. Never ever going to be prolific but hassles defenders all game long and chips in with the odd goal too. 15/16 was a bit of an anomaly for him really, he won't generally get that many goals in a season as his finishing isn't good enough. He's a hard working striker who will chip in 5-7 pl goals in a season while offering more as well. I'd be worried if he was first choice but he's not, and he's a good squad player to have around for a club like us. Strikes me as a good pro and good character to have in the dressing room too.
It's really quite simple. You never play Long as a sole striker. Unfortunately Puel never seemed to learn that.
Generally agree. Last season though, whilst not scoring goals his workrate on the field was just as good.
No disrespect to jay rod, he's a good lad and wish him all the best. But we've truly mugged off WBA , he's barely played for like 2 years.
