With all the money sloshing around these days I've kind of given up trying to work out what a "good" price for a player is any more. If we're paying £7m for a 4th choice CB (not sure whether we are btw) then £12m for Rodriguez doesn't seem like that much. Wouldn't say it's a bad deal though and best of luck to Jay.
Moving upto £15M potentially, I think that is fair for a player that seems to be crocked, and limited.
Although it is a bit different as this CB is only 21. He may be 4th choice initially but if he improves with age then we may have ended up paying £Xm for a first choice player.
Long may not have had the best of seasons under Puel but that goal against Liverpool was worth £12m on its own! There were many that thought he was overpriced but most changed their minds by May 2016. I expect him to gain some of his old form this time around under the new management.
And few players lose all their value. Long has a value now....if we were to sell him....so he has cost his wages + purchase price - sale price.
Yeah, for me Long and Clasie were the two players who most didn't seem to be favoured/rated by Puel. I'm happy for both to stay, and feature more this time around. (Although I still want another forward, and another DM).
You can put it down more to market inflation, but we could easily sell Shane for the price we paid for him. We had to pay the higher fee because he was a proven performer at premier league level and he's done exactly what it said on the tin.
Agree to disagree Fats... Anyhow, today we rejoice as we just splashed a fortune on signing three new worldy's
What was he proven in exactly? Barely scoring, so he excelled. And I'd be surprised if we got back what he cost... Anyhow, not hear to bad mouths the Board, am a happy boy today
There's no doubt that Shane was prety poor last season, but the season prior to that most would say that he was key for us? Still think he gives us good options up front, maybe not first choice, but would benefit from a run of games?
A hard working striker who chips in with goals and he had done that over multiple seasons with West Brom/Hull.
Loads of the youngsters need new deals, wonder if we will announce them as well? Just Yoshida left in the first team I guess?
I'd be very disappointed if we lost Shane, I think he offers things to the team that others don't. For me he was very rarely played in a position that suited him last season; he struggles up front on his own and is best either as one of a front two (I think he's ahve done well if given a proper go in Puel's original diamond formation) or coming in off the right in a 4-3-3 (which is what he did when we had Pelle as the target man)
Ok, glad we cleared that up then. I mean if he was Spanish I would understand more, that someone who barely does anything useful on the pitch, but does that regular **** all thing each season. Yeah, now you described it I totally get it...
My only concern with Long is that he does rely solely on his pace. At 30 years old he will soon lose his greatest, some might argue only, asset and therefore be worth very little. I'm just thinking it may be best to sell him whilst we could get a decent price.
