Handicaps aren't really my thing especially flat ones but I really, really like the look of Mullins' LAWS OF SPIN 10/3 in the Curragh finale. The GOAT is actually running two in it, both heading the market, but the great man basically says that if it doesn't rain this is the one to be on. My moles down south tell me it's set to be nice and dry tomorrow till after racing so I'm happy to chance this lad on the premise he should improve a fair bit from 3 to 4 so can cope with the 7lb rise he got for winning the Cesarewitch last October. Obviously a few lurkers down the weights who've been choked to within an inch of their lives to get a mark (which is why I try to stay away from this stuff) but hopefully this one's one for the good guys with the straightest bats etc. If it stays dry I'll be surprised should he not go exceedingly close to landing this pot.

Not a bad dose of racing tomorrow-

    2.25 Newcastle- MATTMU- 14/1

Making his AW debut and has been of for just over a year however his record fresh reads 223 and he won a group 3 over in Ireland 2 years ago beating the likes of Toscanini, Maarek and Anthem Alexander. His last run was in the Diamond Jubilee this a big step down from that and altho is a competitive race 14/1 imo looks a decent Ew Price

    3.30 Newcastle- NATURAL SCENERY- 8/1

Became abit of a AW superstar over the winter but given completely the wrong tactics at Lingfield on Finals lto when held up far to much. Returns to a track she obviously loves being 3/3 on tapeta and had produced some of Her best performances here. And I can see the lines on Sunday- Gordon Sets the Scene at Newcastle <laugh> ok Maybe not

5.20 Curragh- WALDGEIST-5/2 (i backed him at 4/1 earlier in the week)

Second to Brametot in the French guineas who imo is a beast and losing by a short head was some feat! The step up in trip looks to surely improve him and that old cliche you have to take note when Fabre sends his horses over!

    GOLDEN SALUTE 9/1 Windsor 2;10
Not the strongest looking Windsor juvenile maiden and this one has no fewer than six winners among the siblings.
The yards youngsters do often improve for the run but their record here in 2yo races is nothing short of sensational.
    Worth a dabble.

Battle of Jericho 2/1 Curragh 2:00 - blocked for a run at the crucial stage on debut and a hot maiden that was. Sharper for it and with no hard luck story he should take beating. Bolger's looked good lto too when finishing ahead of BOJ but the O'Brien one can turn the tables today.

Verbal Dexterity 4/1 Curragh 4:40 - Won on debut by 9 lengths which suggests it was an awful maiden or this lad is extremely good. There was soundings around my area for him before his appearance and I'm guessing he is rather good due to this. Murillo the one to beat but Bolger usually knows the time of day and what's required for this. Lovely name too <laugh>

    Have a great day folks.

I suppose no one is certain to stay until they they have Has stamina in the family and his dam was half sister to the st leger winner Masked Marvel, so it looks likely and will surely improve Based on what the breeding says

    Reflektor 2.20 Chester

Down to a nice mark. Running from a decent stall at Chester. Few extra lbs whipped off the back by the claimer. Gets the ground. 9/1 each way seems fair.

Regular readers will know how I've became a huge fan of handicaps, especially flat ones I'm actually confidently predicting another!

    Sea Wolf 11/4 Curragh 3.10
The yard won the finale last night and particularly target the bigger meets like this one nowadays. They expect this fella to win, he's run three times at the Curragh and his form figures are 111. I'm expecting this lad to take a world of beating. He'll likely go off a good bit shorter than the 11/4 he currently is. Wins and wins well.

He won a G1 over 10f on soft ground as a 2yo so I'm fairly confident he'll stay well. I'd make him the favourite personally purely because I think the French 2yo colts are better than the UK ones and the only doubt for me is his lack of form on ground without the word soft in it.

    Scoop 6/EW Lucky 63:

    1:50 Newcastle - Amazour 6/1
    2:25 Newcastle - Kimberella 7/2
    2:40 Newmarket - Dance Diva 4/1
    3:00 Newcastle - October Storm 13/2
    3:05 York - Bear Valley 7/1
    3:30 Newcastle - Natural Scenery 15/2

For the Irish Derby, the top 3 in the betting obviously a fair bit shorter than the field but it looks quite an open contest so looking at those at a bigger price the one i've gone for is Douglas Macarthur 14/1 ew. Jockey bookings for the O'Brien yard mean absolutely nothing and the lad who has the ride on this seems to be a decent young jockey. The price seems generous and with 3 places i'm happy to chance this one ew.

Hello, crew. One thing that I’ve never understood about today’s big race (the Northumberland Plate) is why it’s also commonly referred to as ‘Richard Pitman’s Derby’. Perplexing or what, say I?!? Anyone know why this is the case???

In that heat (3.30), incidentally, I think that old rogue Prescott will have the winner with FLYMETOTHESTARS whilst earlier on the card I’m of the opinion that DON’T TOUCH (2.25) is overpriced at 7/2. He’s the highest rated on official perches and his best looks, to me, at a considerably higher level than his opponents.

    Good luck, team.

A great day already with a win in New Zealand for the Lions. Reflektor and Normal Equilibrium at Chester and Natural Scenery at Newcastle. In the Irish Derby a small speculation ew on Jessie Harrington's Grandee a massive 50/1. Good luck everyone.

Nice result for the Lions, great to see the ref stand strong for the red card. Had Lions to lose by 20+ points against 15 in my head.
