Looks like the consensus is that he's a very good manager. I don't think we'll be afraid to attack which will go down well. There's affection for him as well beyond just results.

This is my only concern with the man. What I've been reading he'll put defence first. With attacking entertainment football last on his priorities. Now I don't mind it, I understand most managers do this but Sunderland fans don't like it. Nearly all our previous managers have done it and by the time Moyes was doing it everyone was sick of it.
It's different if you're playing defensive football and losing, to playing defensive football and winning. Take those lot up the road last season, Rafa didn't exacly play attacking football but no one was massively arsed because they were winning. We've been doing it and losing so it's always going to be scrutinised more.

We haven't won a game yet mate. Bit of punt from you that, considering we'll get at most 20m to build a 16 man squad into a 40 man squad(it won't go far). We've got a lot of defending to do this season with no guarantees we'll have enough attacking threat in our arsenal to balance it out and win games. We've only changed managers ya know. Same owner looking too save money to pay off same debt and get out. You're putting a lot of faith in all change when the change is tiny in reality. My point was simply on paper, he's going to do what every manager we've had has tried to, concentrate on keeping it tight with no guarantees on anything. Because the state of the club, he's going to have focus on the basics with little money to do it with, just like the rest have had to. Very high chance it's going to be same **** differant season because the manager has not been backed enough again. Rafa had a **** load of the Mags cryin last season cause of negativity btw. Just type Rafa Benitez and negative into Twitter's search and read them all from last season. If it not Mags moaning about negative tactics, it's mags moaning about mags moaning about negative tactics.
I don't mind the old sorting out the defence as a priority as long as we attack as well. However we play it is impossible that it could be more conservative than Moyes.
What choice did Moyes have though? We'd have conceded 10 a game if he hadn't. How can you be so sure Garyson won't be forced to play the same? Moyes isn't the only one forced to play this way. We needed 3 cm sat in front of the back 4 last season just for damage limitation. We're not going to be funded for a promotion push. He's going to have the same sort of restraints in place. I'll have his back but I bet he gets the flack instead of Short. Our voice on here is tiny, over on Twitter and Facebook it's a voice which gets heard, and it's full of idiots. I know I'm coming across negative but just saying it as I see it as the club is undeniably in a very negative and weak situation. I'm just concerned the poor bloke will get it in the neck once the idiots get frustrated. Because the bloke has a colossal job ahead of him.
I was talking meaning hypothetically, it's only natural that the response to tactics will be better if you're winning compared to that of when you're losing every week - that was the point I was meaning. I'm not expecting miracles at all mate, would be happy with some kind of consolidation this year, though I know many won't be.

How many championship squads are down to 17 seniors with more to leave though I wonder? It's all relative. I don't see the point in comparing budgets when every squad has it's own individual needs. Ours are extremely great as we're just so low on numbers which means a budget must be stretch further than it should. Maybe we shouldn't be looking at how much we've got compared to others and look at if our own budget can bring in around 15 players of good enough quality to cater for our needs? Bear in mind this time last season Daryl Murphy had a 5m valuation. Grayson has a hellish window ahead of him. I wish him the best in working miracles.
Like ive said before i really think we need to find a couple of gems in the loan market. Bristol city had Abraham from Chelsea last season for example who banged a load in for them. Huddersfield's success was mainly down to their loanees they got from City and Chelsea aswell. Newcastle had Atsu aswell who was a big player for them.
Didn't he get a Chelsea player for Preston last year? Hopefully he brings in better loans than the likes of Januzai!!!
Oh yeah, very little has changed. We'll be relying heavily on loans more than ever, which effects next Summer when the squad numbers dwindle again. We're going to need a lot of loan gems.
Heres the players Huddersfield were lucky enough to get last season. Theyve just signed Mooy permanatly for 10m who was their main man last year. To be able to borrow players of that calibre is a huge advantage.
It's a minefield though fella, the more you need to harder to get right. For every Prem League youngster loaned out who goes on to good things, there must be half a dozen or more loaned out who don't cut it and end up playing in league 1 and 2 further down the line. Getting the next big thing in on loan is a tough thing to find and some of them are now commanding loan fees. So long as they can keep us up though I'm happy.
I know true. If we can get someone like Baker or Loftus cheek from Chelsea id be over the moon. Any young player from the top 6 should be a big plus. I remember Millwall signing Harry Kane on loan about 5 years ago and he scored 20 odd goals for them.
Bright side is had we stayed up we'd have been looking to loan out about 5 to 6 of our youngsters to that league. Those are players we own this year. So the likes of Honeyman, Greenwood, Ledger, Embleton, the Robson lads will all contribute in addition to Gooch, Watmore, Love, Ndong, McNair ect
I think monk would have gone to Boro because they have a fantastic owner. The bloke is Boro thru n thru, just wish our owner had the same commitment as their chairman (Gibson I think.)
Boro would be in league 1 now still playing at Ayesome park if it wasnt for Gibson. I envy them having someone like him running the club.
